At some point I'll be swapping a dana 30 into my 1960 cj5. The donor axle is out of a 1973 cj5 and will be completely rebuilt - ball joints, U joints, bearings, seals/shields. It will also be re-geared to 4.88 with a powerlock.

I'm looking for an exploded view specific to the '72-'75 dana 30. All I can seem to find is exploded views for the '76 and up versions. While very similar, there are some subtle differences. Anyone have a good diagram or know where I can find one?

any exploded view specific to a 72-75 cj dana 30 would be helpful.
housing, bearings, seals, axles, carriers, gears, knuckles, spindles, hubs, etc ,etc.
brakes would be a plus, but not really needed.

I have an FSM for a 75, and it has diagrams for the rear 44 simi-float and the 60... No diagram for the front D 30.

I have some generic D30 diagrams, but I don't know the year on them.

thanks for checking. i was hoping someone with a FSM would chime in, although i'm disappointed the manual would not have a dana 30 diagram.
    maybe a 72-74 manual did?

35" tires and a big V8 will get you a Dana 30 exploded view pretty quickly.

You can buy a '74-80 parts manual on CD-ROM, or paper. More Information for DETROIT IRON DCDC114

There is very little difference between a '73 and a '74 CJ. Only smog equipment, paint colors and badges AFAIK.

Quick question guys... how do you cross reference the part numbers on the images above to real world parts?

You need the listings that connect the figure numbers to the part numbers. The text-only listing has the part numbers.
Note that the Jeep PNs won't neccesiarily show up in the aftermarket listings. They might, but no guarantee.

    I would suggest googling thus:

19xx (xx = insert year) jeep cj Dana 30 xyz (xyz = insert part name from the diagram)

Doing so will often bring p/n results. If you go to the top of the google results page and click "shopping" it will bring up a list of sources to purchase.

Awesome, thanks for the tips guys! I've ended up with the wrong part twice now following the "this should fit according to rock auto" principal.
