I had the same problem...took a couple of old school black rubber bungies cut to length and glued them to the top of the old seal...the glue didn't work very well but the windshield sure locks in place better, as an added bonus the angle of the windshield is sharper...looks better and provides a bit more sight at the top.

Been ding some work on the fuel pump to check a few things taht didn't seem to be working right. When I rebuilt it a few years ago I found a lot of wastage in the fuel bowl area- I JB'd it at the time but it didn;t level very well so I decided while I had it off to clean it up a bit where the gasket goes

Spent most of the rest of the afternoon trying to get a bad valve out of the vac section.

Last week fellow Riversider and earlycj5 contributor jpflat2a kindly reached out and invited me to a local car meetup Saturday. The weather was beautiful and I'm always up to looking at some cool cars. It was a diverse collection of cars, I definitely had the dirtiest vehicle there. Maybe I should have washed the mud off the rear bumper. Although, this nice lady did stop by and tell me my Jeep looked like it was prepared to go anywhere, and that she loved it. The '62 Biscayne I'm parked next to was neat. For several years I had a '61 Biscayne I drag raced in a now defunct California based Nostalgia Drag Race series, so I have a soft spot for those cars.

It was nice meeting you Jim, and your clean flat fender. Sounds like Jim has been wheeling a long time now. Hopefully we can get out on some trails together.

Returning home Saturday afternoon I did some more work on the tire mount, adding some side body support, a latch, and getting the tire mounted. Need to take it back apart and paint everything. I had ordered some color matched paint online, and its arrived so I'll be able to repaint that quarter panel the correct color. It won't match the faded, rusted, stained, scratched, scuffed paint everywhere else, but it'll look better than white primer. Maybe in a couple years it won't be noticeable.

With the weather so nice I used the Jeep to do all my errands all weekend.

My 67 Commando is like that, but most of the time the battery is still up and it starts. Yet once in a while the battery will be dead.
Last year it sat all winter and fired right up with no jump start when spring thaw came. Always amazed at how old technology just works period.
It may need more maintenance than today's tech, but I still prefer it.

Ever see Jonathan W's you tube channel? He just got a 39 Chevy running that sat for 48 years. The owner died and the family is selling the property and the cars gotta go.
There is an original Jeepster in the "barn" the old cars are in, but the family is keeping that one. Jon's been hauling out the others and buying half of them like the 39!
It even idled once it warmed up a bit, the carb was fine!

I believe I have found the fatal flaw in the design of this style of tire carrier. With only three points of mounting, 2 on the hinge side and then the latch up high on the drivers side, it is easy to flex the tire as the cross tubes allow a lot of movement. I put a temporary brace behind the carrier down low on the drivers side and the carrier became much more rigid. All that flex had to allow the tire to get some momentum as its bouncing, and really add stress to the sheet metal. No wonder the metal ripped eventually. I have built a second latch to install at the bottom corner of the carrier. That will give all 4 corners of the carrier a solid mount and should help mitigate some of the flexing and subsequently, some of the ripping.

The spray can paint match I ordered looks to be the right color, as best as I can tell, as there's not an area to compare that hasn't faded over the years. (y) Still, bright and shiny new paint looks better than primer of any color, in my opinion. Some trail pinstriping will make it look better...

I had the same problem, my tire carrier also had 2 Jerry cans as well. On the trail the tire just bounced non stop.

I plan on building one that uses a trailer spindle and hub, ($35 from Tractor supply) welded to a square tube rear bumper. Others that have done this say it's very stable.

I did that on my Ford E350, built a swing arm. It works very well. Considered it for the Jeep, but wanted a more nostalgic look. With the 4th attachment point it is very rigid. If I see signs of stress though, I'll rip it off and build a swing arm bumper mount.

Good looking Jeep. What size are those tires you have mounted on the stock wheels?

Thanks for the kind words. The tires are Ironman MT 31x10.5-15’s. They rubbed the tub when fully compressed until I added 1” spacers.

I like the look of the larger tires on the stock width rims.

In restoring my1972 I am working on the gas tank under the seat and fuel lines and switching valve routing to work with my main tank so my gas gauge works with either tank. Much funnn yup

I tore off a spring hanger today. When I bought my Jeep 25 years back someone Bubba'd the p side front. I have fixed all 3 of the others over the years. Went Wheeling today and this happened. Of course I flat towed it today since my trailer has bathroom remodel debris on it. Ended up getting home no problem.

Wow, it ripped the bottom right out of the frame rail. Time to get the welder ready.

I know, I need to get it apart and figure out a good fix. Thinking maybe a piece of angle to fill the gap, welded a few inches past the break.

Took the whole family for a Sunday drive in the new Jeep. It drives well, I think I'm going to like this thing.
