Wow thank you everybody for the welcome and information. Here is a bit more info. I will work on better photos, the lighting in my shop is really bad.

I am surprised the VW caught any attention , that is indeed a 84 gti w/16v swap. There is another 83 gti hiding right next to it.

The carb: It actually has a crack in the top half. I think my dad rebuilt and installed it, only to have a fuel leak. I have all the parts it is missing in that photo, and a rebuild kit, but need at least a airhorn half or parts carb.

The alternator bracket: The ear is broken off. Maybe I will try to weld it up myself however a good bolt on replacement would be a whole lot quicker and easier.

The hardtop: The poor thing could probably be salvaged but it has a lot of issues. I will have to think about what to do with it, but rest assured it is not going to scrap.

    Other things going on:
Gas tank is not installed but have a new one.

Rear driveshaft is not installed, I have it, but not sure why it is out.

The rear end sags a inch or two. It could use at the minimum new shocks.

Seats are just sitting there and not from a jeep.

    Ironlung,
Something unplanned happened to my notifications and messages, let me know if you need the alternator bracket and carb. No charge to you. Good luck!

I am in touch with a company and ordering a brand new air horn half of the carb and a electric choke setup.(edit: got a carb from wasillashack but anyone who needs Rochester parts check out hotrodcarbs.com)

Here are a bunch more photos. There was this splined shaft in the box with the driveshaft, does anyone recognize it as a jeep part?

Also, according to my brother there is a different transfer case, and set of flat fenders buried somewhere at my dads garage. I will search one day when it warms up.

The wheels are brand new pro comp steelies, tires are "new" but dated 2004 so that is probably the last time this thing was touched.

Added to my stuff to order list:
    Plug wires
    Radiator hoses

Splined shaft with rear driveshaft May be for aligning the clutch. Maybe your Dad installed a new clutch at some point.
As mentioned earlier you have a good start on a fun jeep. Enjoy working on it.

Too bad about those tires. I wouldn't run them on the road. Even if they look fine old tires are bad news.

Also that top is mint! They're hard to sell because they're heavy but someone local will love to get one.

Actually that splined shaft looks like the back half of the top cluster gear shaft for a T90. I believe it looks like THIS

Welcome! Sweet Jeep, awesome starting point. Jeeps like this make me wish mine was more original when I bought it, but then I might feel bad about cutting it up :rofl:keep us posted on your progress and keep sharing those pictures! I'm relatively new to Jeeps but this site and it's patrons have been extremely helpful in guiding me through all obstacles I've encountered.

Glad to hear you located the carb top you need. If the deal doesn't work out, LMK, I'll send you a whole carb or just the top. A good glass shop should be able to cut a new window for your door. They can also supply the rubber seal strips for holding the other windows in place. The company that made the door and hatch mechanisms is still in business, if you can't find a name on your latches, I have it recorded and will be glad to look it up for you. The prices, IIRC, were extremely reasonable. Good luck!

Rear shaft may have been taken out for towing with a dolly, then just not put back on.

Rear end sag may be because body mounts back there have given up the ghost. If it's not that, shocks won't raise it though. They dampen movement, not raise the body. Work on springs instead.

Is that a PTO shaft in the first pick in #23? Nice headers too.

Huge thank you to user Wasillashack for setting me up with a proper carb. I plan to finish the rebuild today.

Does anyone have a guess what this brake line to nowhere is or was for? Also this random bracket that seems to do nothing?

There is a spare transfer case that my brother says was supposed to be swapped in maybe that has something to do with it

I think it will all be replaced leaf springs and shocks, and I will take a look at the body mounts.

I totally agree and even though I only plan to sputter this around on the county roads, they will be replaced asap.

Glad to hear the carb is what you needed, hope every thing works out for you. I've been sending parts all over the US, when health permits. Going in for back surgery Friday, followed by two knee replacements.
