I've got a roller again... I really don't like having this stuck on jack stands too long... But yesterday I cut the spring perches loose on the front axle and twisted in a little more caster... When I chopped the frame off the front and rebuilt the spring hangers the new angle on the springs meant my caster was way off... It was at 0 degrees. So I just tacked the perches back on for now. I plan to pull both axles back out and do the final welding and painting later this spring when it warms up.

I'm going to focus on getting the drivetrain put together correctly now. I don't have the clutch fork or the gaskets and sealers between the transmission and transfer case... Then I can start plumbing the chassis and getting ready to put the body back on. Thanks for checking it out, laters

Edit: evidently assembled isn't a good word to use...

Doing things... I tried to get something done this morning... I don't really want to have a bunch of chrome on the engine so I nabbed up these plain valve covers from my friends wrecking yard and used parts emporium... I've had them for years and decided today to clean them up...

After the usual mess of WD40 and Simple Green, wire brushes, and the drill mounted wire wheel flinging crap everywhere, I fired the air compressor and hooked up the bead blaster... Then I remembered we have a parts washer at work... Dang. Maybe next time.

Out to the solar heated, cross draft spray paint station... I'd like to put some stencils or decals on them to finish them off for extra points. I thought about some old style 283 decals or something. Anyways, now that I'm done with the mad rush of the cargo conversion I can start spending mornings in the shop... Thanks for checking it out, Laters

    Today's head banger...

I decided to get all the fun stuff bolted to the front of the motor since everything is easy to get to... I have this huge 7 bladed fan that I want to use. I don't really want electric fans at all. I used one of these fans on my Chevy Luv with a 400 SBC and it always kept it cool. I don't really think much of the aftermarket fans, they seem to be sharp and not worth a darn. So I need to move the power steering pump back a little to get out of the fan...

I did the ol hold it up and eye ball it technique... It looks like if I move it back about the width of the bracket, I can catch the first pulley and be golden...

So I whipped up a little relocation bracket from 3/16ths plate... This is version one... It fit perfectly, nice and snug to the block, except the big suction fitting on the side of the pump was right where the steering shaft needed to pass through...

Version two is better... Hopefully I can get a fitting on the suction side without too trouble...

The pulleys align pretty good. This version hangs down a little more than I'd like but it'll work. If the bracket flexes too much I can triangulate a strap back to the lower motor mount bolt in the block... Next up will be the alternator... I have a bracket that mounts it up on the passenger side... We'll see how that goes. Thanks for checking it out, Laters

    Moving to the alternator...

The only factory available alternator mount that mounts to the passenger side of the engine is for a long water pump... To my knowledge. So I had ordered a passenger side alternator mount from Alan Grove Components. They make a ton of different brackets. I think they're marketing is more towards street rods and stuff, but whatever. Since I had to move the power steering pump around I kinda thought they would be trying to share a pulley. Sure enough, I was right. So I cut up the beautiful bracket and modified it to work with what I've got...

I should have took a picture of it before... Beautiful Tig welds. Anyway, I also moved the bracket down to the lower hole on the water pump and rotated it out towards the fender a bit, this way I could use one of the bolt holes in the head for extra support. With some clever CAD and careful bending I was able to bridge the gap with another piece of 3/16ths steel. It looks kinda butch right now, but when I do all the finish welding I'll probably add some gussets and try and purdy it up a little bit. Next weekend a buddy is coming over with his hydraulic flare tool for the brake lines, so hopefully after that I'll be getting ready to put the body back on and making some serious headway... Thanks for checking it out, Laters

    Brake lines are happening...

That's the two major lines... I still need to aquire the drop hoses that go to the axles... But this will work for now so I can put the body back on... Next up, fuel lines.

Also I made friends with an Alpaca named Alexander at the Rellik Winery near Jacksonville Oregon... He didn't have much to say... Laters!

I managed to mangle up some hard line for the fuel supply and return lines... I decided to run as much hard line as possible. I don't really like the idea of having a bunch of rubber fuel line in my Jeep... I did some research and found a fitting that would adapt the 1/2-20 thread on the lines to a -6an, but each fitting was 20 bux... No thanks. While cruising Earl's web site I found this...

I can chop the 1/2-20 fitting off and replace it with these... Only about 12 bux each...

Also after talking with a friend I remembered I had some KC Daylighters I had planned to use...

I drilled a hole in the fenders in approximately the same location as the military blackout light would be... I plan to build a brush guard like the original lights as well...

Then I attacked the fender with the drill press and a cut off wheel... When I built the fenders I made the tops out of 3/16ths thick, and that was a bit heavier than I liked... Next up is the DEI heat barrier for the bottom of the tub. I haven't decided if I want to build the exhaust or not. I have a bunch of bends and stuff in the cart at Summit Racing, I just know if I wanna deal with it or haul it to town and pay to have it done... Stay safe out there guys... Laters

I was installing some heat shield to the bottom of my tub the other day. It's much harder to do it after the Jeep is assembled. You are on the right track to do it now before the frame and drivetrain is in the way. Also, I used a similar adapter to convert my hard fuel lines to -6 and it worked well.

That's what I was figuring... I have a hardtop for winter time, so I decided I might as well... I also pulled the trigger on the exhaust... Might as well do that with the tub off too...

    Yipes!! Pipes!!!

So I ordered up a bunch of exhaust pipe bends and a tail pipe kit from Summit Racing. I pulled out the chop saw and plugged it in... It decided to eat the brushes and melt some wires inside...

So I threw this together... It actually worked pretty good for cutting the pipes...

Built a beefy little mount for the Supertrapp muffler...

And got the muffler position right where I wanted it...

So far not too bad... Since I'm running a single exhaust down the inside of the frame and all the way out the back, I used a larger size pipe so it keeps the noise down. We'll see how that works out later...

How much up travel do you have with that exhaust routing? It looks pretty close to the pumpkin (possibly just an optical illusion? )

    Great work regardless!

It's gonna be close... I still need to mount the bumpstops, but there should be enough room... Thanks for checking it out
