My question is this. The inner fender on my 71 is the first picture below. All repops for 70-71 with marker indent have the inner fender like the second pic below. What gives? Am I missing something in my searches, a certain keyword perhaps? I need the inners to look like the first pic (my stock) with the egg shaped shock mount cutout forward, not the square notched located further back. Also attaching a pic that shows how a 1971 repop sits on my frame. Anyone have insight or knowledge as to why all repops for the 70-71 with marker light have the square shock cutout and located rear?

This is my original fender (PO cut both sides) unsure as to why.

All repops I am finding on the net are this type. This is a brand new repop sitting on my heap. Short fender with marker indents 1970-71

Except every vendor is listing a separate set for 70-71 short fender (correct) with marker (correct) but all of the fenders have the later rear mounted cut out (incorrect)

I think they are using the later inside mold to stamp the inside of the re pop fender. My 70 OEM fender has the same inside that you have.
I used a postal fender on a 67 and it had something different than either of the ones you have. I used a (Brand X) sawzall to notch out the postal fender for the 67 shock mount which is like your 70 shock mount.

Yes. It is very frustrating to say the least. I guess I am confused as to why all of the repops have the rear mount shock cut out and incorrect shelf stamping?? I mean I get that they are trying to fit as many jeeps as possible, but really?

Am I to assume that the people buying the repops do not care as to the correctness of the inner fender and have no problem just cutting and bolting up?

I know that there is a short 2 year period for the short fender with marker lights and that demand dictates product. Just sucks.

Repop fenders. Enough said. Might do a search as it has been covered exhaustively. I had repops for ‘72 and newer. One was a full inch longer than the other. From the same company.

I ran into this wrong inner fender issue about 7-8 years back, before I was on this forum. I ended up cutting up an old M38a1 fender for the inner panel, and grafted it on to a repop outer fender. I just thought the customer bought the wrong part.

think that is the issue right there...literally, how many 70-71 jeeps are really still out there and even less would ever potentially buy new fenders...

Yup, I am just going to remove the inners from my 69 donor and put them in my 71's. In the end it is just a bunch of spot weld removal X4, then graft them back into my oem 71's.

On my fenders, I just cut and welded a patch in the fender then recut the space for the shock.

I was going to do that, but.... My inners do not have any shelf at all, so I can't use the repops.
