Installing Bds Suspension

Here are a few shots of the first spring I put on. I also have a picture of my newly painted frame.

 

I’ve had the BDS 2.5” suspension lift for 3 years now. You will really like it
I used the 1/2” U-bolts and elongated the spring plate holes. The double wraps on the spring pack face the back of the Jeep, for both front and rear. I see you have it correct. Did you get the shocks too?

 

I did get the shocks. I got the upgraded fox shocks. Probably overkill, but I figured it can’t hurt.

I just put the front springs from BDS on my Jeep. I just hogged out the holes in the plates. Annoying but Stuff like that happens to me all the time. I just shrug, deal with it and drive on.

 

To me this would be an easy fix for the makers of the BDS lift kit. I think the 7/16 size u bolts are strong enough so why go 1/2 inch especially when it makes you have to modify the spring plates.

 

Seems most of the 2.5” lift kits come with the 1/2” U-Bolts. Not sure if you could ask for 7/16”. I was able to elongate the holes just with a good round file, no drilling required.

 

Do the double wraps absolutely have to face to the rear? Don’t ask why lol.

 

From the instructions in the BDS kit, it says yes. For axle wrap under torque? And articulation?

 

I believe it’s a safety feature. With your shackles in the front, when your tire hits a stationary object, that force is pushed against the rear spring eye. Hit it hard enough and it wants to bend (or break) the main leaf away from the pack. With the second leaf wrapped around the first, it’s trying to bend twice the material.

If the main leaf breaks on your front spring, you’ll still have a positive connection to the solid frame mount (as opposed to the shackle that could allow your axle to move substantially), keeping your axle located under your rig.

With that being said, them wanting the snail-wrap pointing to the rear of the rear springs sorta blows that theory out of the water. I’d think they’d want both sets of snail-wraps at the frame mounts?
