I got this when I purchased my '66 Tux. The PO said it was installed and working when someone took it off to install a Manual Saginaw steering...

The winch is a Ramsey model B246R-618, 8K...

The PTO is a Ramsey model STC-5W...

    With shaft...

The winch is controlled by a big knob on the dash...

Not looking to sell, but I want to know more about it. How does it work? What other Jeeps would this be found on? Rare? Of course value? I may put it on my other '66...:D

Your so lucky to own all these beauties, maybe Santa Klaus helped.
Please clean them, paint, make them shiny and send again the photos, I suffer a little bit to see them like this.
Add a beautiful ribbon, lucky man.

Nice set up. The PTO you wouldn't want to use on your '66, though. It's a bottom mount PTO for a 20 transfer case. Hangs way down. If you can find a rear mount PTO for a 18 case it would be better. Great winches, I have several. The best part is no solenoids, cables, motors, buttons, etc. 100 percent duty cycle, and will pull until the cows come home. Self braking, due to the worm gear drive. Will not unspool in gear without driving the winch. Will run while submerged, as long as the motor is running, obviously. The only down side I have ever run across is the inability to right yourself, if you flop alone, you will need help.

You cannot use a 20 pto on an 18 transfer case without changing gears, either in the PTO or the transfer case. The gear tooth counts won’t mesh correctly. You can put an early Bronco “T” shift transfer case pto gear in the 20 pto and use it on an 18 or change the gears in the 18 to 20 gears.
The Bronco pto gear has to be from the same brand of pto, I.e. a Koenig gear won’t work in a Ramsey, etc. very expensive proposition. putting 20 gears in an 18 is going backwards on low range ratio imho. Going from 2.46-1 low range to 2.03-1 is not beneficial for most people. I’ve converted tons of 20’s to 2.46-1 but have never had a request to go the other way.

I agree with Howard, that narrow spool winch is the good one as it CAN be used with Saginaw steering if everything is placed just right. Those were also used on ‘72-‘75 CJ’s. I’ve only had one in my possession and the guy who bought it from me had been looking for several years for one. That’s why I prefer the Koenig’s because they are narrower, are more available, have a larger diameter spool and fit easier. Absolutely nothing wrong with the Ramsey. It’s a good unit. Just not as common with the narrow spool.

Moot point. Can’t be used with an 18 despite the bolt pattern working. The gear teeth count is wrong and won’t mesh correctly. Only way to make that work is to use a Ramsey driven gear from an early Bronco T-shift transfer case application.
