I've decided to call her Lucinda.

    She's Lucinda steering
    Lucinda body mounts
    Lucinda wiring

The more I look the more things I find...

Fingers healing nicely - in case I didn’t mention that, broke my ring finger on the winch install.
Bit grabbed and twisted the drill, jacked the finger. Didn’t know it was broken until the next day, never seen a human finger that color
Found some more oddities today while tinkering on Lucinda.
The body mounts are really a mess. Almost all are only hand tight. Some are sitting on small channel iron spacers some are not. The ones on the frame in front of the door openings don’t touch anything.

I pulled the monstrosity of a rear bumper off and found the rear body mounts are also damaged and not actually connected.
I noticed the brackets for the tail lights were still behind the back panels and a small radius crack opened up easily into the original hole when properly motivated with a small ball peen hammer. They were just covered and bondo’d over. 126A7D7A-6B19-4D3F-8159-6B4E045A00E3.jpeg 9FE5E434-9F31-40D2-854D-D007E10838FC.jpeg
This old girl’s gonna need a little more work :)

I pulled the dash to get a look at her wiring. Looks like whoever cut in the speaker used a beaver.

The back side did show me the original color - looks like Julep Green.

Oh Yeah...... I'm with Daryl & Jeff in the fact that the Intermediate years were the best CJ5's ever made in Toledo.

That would match the deep well for the under-seat fuel tank.

It seems like CJs are a magnet for ghetto repairs and "upgrades". That takes a lot of patience to work through, good job!

Where are you located in Oklahoma? I'm in Tulsa near Jenks. If you are not too far I could come take a look at your project and bring my 71 so you can see the differences between and early and an intermediate CJ5's.

It appears you have an intermediate '72-'75 CJ5 with a swapped M38a1 body tub. The dead give-away is the fuel tank well under the drivers seat. Is there also a recessed "dish" on the passenger cowl side?. This also explains the recessed tail light provisions too. The M38a1 mounted the spare tire bracket offset to the passenger side instead of centered. You should find a set of holes for it that line up with the reinforcements on the inside. This offset made room for a jerry can bracket on the drivers side of the rear panel. It all looks pretty solid. Definitely not a '69!

That is covering over the slave receptacle on an M38A1 cowl.

Look up from there, behind the dash, and you'll probably see where the battery box lid was deleted too.

    A little progress to report...
one of the pieces the PO had covering the rear tail light holes is a good free patch for the dash hole the beaver ate. Cut to fit, but I need to get a better welder to properly patch this in, so that’s another day.

I got a visit from homerdog and thanks to his great amount of knowledge I learned some cool things about what he called my frankenjeep. I got the body mounts all replaced and was even completely missing two. Thanks again homersdog for showing me where those were supposed to be.

The right rear corner had almost 1/4 of Bondo on it and I don’t see any real reason for that.
I removed it and found another hole. Not sure what that one was for, but it’ll work great for the filler neck on the correct fuel tank.
I got a salvage tank, but it needs some real cleaning up. The old fuel tank is out and I’ll need to figure out what I’m going to do with the big hole.

A few updates - got the correct fuel tank cleaned up and installed, all wiring And tail lights replaced. Welded in patches in all the extra holes in the dash and replaced the gauge.
I sprayed the dash with Raptor liner in the spray can. 1 can is just enough for the dash.
A couple before and after pics

She’s back on the road and went to get gas under her own power.
