The clutch is sooo much better. I can push the pedal with one finger now, and engagement is proportionate to the pedal travel. I took pics of the process, but I apparently didn’t save them off of the photo app, so you just get finished result pics.

I couldn’t drill the cable out of the original tip, so I made a new identical one out of a bolt. I drilled a hole all the way through it, stuck the cable through so it stuck out about 1/8”, then welded the tip to the end of the cable. I then took a center punch and peened the rest of the length of the tip to pinch the cable. It should be pretty fail-safe between the two processes.

I raised the cable attachment point as high as I could on the pivot arm and moved the cable mount.

Here you can see how the shortening benefited. Before, the cable was jammed in against the engine and the cage post on the left, and stuck out from under the fender. It’ll fit inside now and touches nothing but where it rests on the frame.

I also tested the steering, and it’s notably better, but still slow. I might choose to change out that pump someday. Revving doesn't affect performance, so I’m thinking it’s a relief valve issue.

Could you explain your thought on this? Isn't the response as to how fast or slow steering is, based on the steering gear ratio or pitman length? I can see how increasing or decreasing the speed of the pump can effect fluid volume or pressure which can effect ease of the steering, but I am missing how that can change speed of the steering.

I would imagine it being like having a weak power steering pump.

Sorry, yes, the effort of input into the wheel is higher than it should be. It has power assist, just not like I feel it should. A quick run through a slalom course would not be quick. It just feels like fluid pressure never gets very high. It also never makes a “labored power steering pump” sound when it is maxed out or over-stressed. This is what makes me wonder if the relief valve is dumping before it should, or if the pump is just worn out. It does have 225k on it...

If it were a volume issue (not a pressure issue), I’d have to believe cycling the steering while the engine is at 3k rpm would change the characteristics somewhat vs. at idle, but it doesn’t.

I’ll have to do some research when I get time to find out if pumps for rack and pinions put out a lower pressure or volume, or if I should just try a different pump.

Some quick searching shows that this pump is a basic GM type 2 pump. Cheap and plentiful.

It was set to put out 820-870 psi when coupled to a rack, and 1100 psi when coupled to a gearbox. I’ll pull it apart when I get a chance to see what kind of shims are in it.

I took the relief valve out and swapped it with one from a spare pump that I know had a rating of 1100 psi. It’s 90% better. Still not as quick as it could be, but definitely much better. It now strains at full lock.

I’ll put a new pump on my wish list. I think this one is just worn out.

Well, like it or hate it, I mounted the filler on the RR wheel well. The more I thought about it, the positives well-outweighed the negatives for me. Once the seat is in, it’ll never even be noticeable. In an open air rig, I see no difference if it’s here or 3” rearward pointing outside. Plus it’s shielded from trail damage. I also like the fact that I can still remove the body without disconnecting the hoses; just pull three M6 bolts.

The neck is from a Rodeo, the ductwork is from Volvo turbo piping, and filler hose and tube I had laying around. I need to grab some hose clamps.

Can't be any different than a motorcycle filler cap.

    I like the filler!

Did I miss the rollover valve and tank vent post?

In the backside of the filler neck, I tapped a hose fitting into it. You can sorta almost see it in the second pic peaking out behind the small rubber hose. I’ll run that into a charcoal canister. I didn’t know you guys care about the little details. :)
