hello all. i am gathering parts to begin my Dana 30 axle swap. it is getting re geared to a 5.38 ratio to match my rear axle.

    parts i will need:
    inner axle seal:
Dana 30 Inner Axle Shaft Seal - Standard 27 Spline

outer axle seal: Amazon.com: Ten Factory MG21102 Red Dana Axle Tube Seal, Pair (30/44): Automotive

    series 4 carrier: DANA 30 CARRIER CASE 3.73 UP 706008X (4 SERIES)

    ring and pinion: https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-16588297-dana-30-5-38-gears-dana-
    oe.html

spider gears: Jeep Wrangler Spider Gear Kit, Dana 30, 27 Spline, Precision Gear (90-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ & TJ)

what else am i missing? im also looking at an electronic locker. ive never dealt with an E-locker, or any locker for that matter. i still need the series 4 carrier if i go the locker route?

i will also replace the bearings since im in there....but i will get the part number when i get it tore apart and can see whats in there.

the only thing preventing me from clicking the order now button, im not 100% sure what my dana 30 came out of. it was free. any advice, or options i should look at?

There should be a Dana number on the axle tube, which will identify what it came out of.

Edit: if your budget allows, this would be the time to do that locker or limited slip...

I dont think the outer axle seals will work with old D30 stuff.

As Doug says, if you go with a full selectable locker (I went with Eaton), you get the entire case ('carrier' if you so choose) with side gears as a single unit (the spline count on the side gears needs to match the axle shafts of course)...Then all you need is the R&P and the side bearings....

Shouldn't matter if you're looking at the case/carrier or locker. they all fit the old stuff. as far as I know

Got any photos of the axle? If you replace the carrier with a locker, you won't need the replacement carrier or spider gears assuming it's a full case locker and not a Spartan or lock-right that just replaces the spider gears. You will however need to select the proper ratio locker that works with your 5.38 gears. The carrier break on the D30 is 3.54 and down and 3.73 and up- You need 3.73 and up. Some lockers will come with a special bearing if so required for install, but you will want a Dana 30 master install kit too. I think this one is it, but the description is confusing so I would call and talk to the guys at ECGS before I ordered it- Dana 30 Reverse and CJ Master Install Kit

47v6 is right also, the outer axle seals don't work with the older CJ axles, and you wouldn't want to use a YJ, TJ, XJ, ZJ, etc axle in your CJ.

Make sure that the parts you are ordering are for a CJ axle. Not much except carriers swap from the old CJ 30's to any of the newer 1987+ Dana 30's and vice versa. And if you don't have a CJ axle, find one before you waste your money on a newer one.

Brake lines, banjo bolts, shock mounts, spring plates, u bolts, without knowing what the D30 is replacing, we are guessing.

I did this swap a few years back. Mine is a 1976 with discs. I have a list of parts I gathered if you are interested. I ended up with an ARB and re-geared it to 4:88's

ARB's are pretty pricey. I just happened upon mine on Craigslist. If you are thinking about a locker now is the time! Those prices seem very fair to me.
