Finally got the other side of the roof sheeting up today along with the ridge cap.

Yup... pictures pretty much always look the same and I’m slow. Windows and a door were added but I need to build the two big barn doors on the front. Soffits and fascia trim needs to happen before siding.

Slow and steady wins the race?

barn doors always sag . aluminum roll up would be better
but hey I am not complaining . that white stuff . would have put me in slow mode too
but there's walls so . some type of construction heat would be in order . to keep me motivated :D
    is jeep using space

Unless you put a wheel of some sort on the bottom of it. Roll up doors are a pain in the *** to insulate/seal and make a lot of noise when the wind blows.

Really? My experience is quite different than yours. Mine came insulated from the factory, has a weather strip seal for around the perimeter and I don't have any wind noise.

Are you talking about a standard garage door that is in a track along the ceiling or an industrial door that rolls around itself above the door opening? If you're talking about the rolled kind maybe technology has improved or they just don't install insulated/sealed ones here in the south. Every one I've been around leaked air and made tons of noise when the wind blew.

There are roll-up panel doors that are almost universal for residential garages around here. In California, the houses all had the 1-piece tilt-up garage doors.

Certainly the panel doors can be insulated. The corrugated steel doors like you see at industrial parks do rattle in the wind.

I'm talking about the standard panel garage door. Since the OP is building the garage at his home, I didn't consider the industrial roll up style enen though the door opening is tall. We have a nieghbor who just finished construction of a very similarly sized garage as the OP's and used the panel style.

Ok, I assumed he was talking about the industrial roll-up due to the size of the opening. A friend of mine is building a 1900sqft 4 bay garage behind his house and made the door openings wider than the standard garage door. He is now having difficulty finding panel style doors that are reasonably priced so will probably be building barn style doors.

Yea it’s absurd. He would have built bigger but our county requires drawings stamped by a licensed structural engineer for anything over 2000sqft. That also doesn't include the apartment/storage above it. I think when it's done the combined square footage will be bigger than his house.

IMHO, I’ve never seen a garage that is too big.

I'm of the opinion that garages/shops are like gold fish tanks. You will always expand to fill them.

But then again this is a "small garage" thread..;) . Building bigger is the easy way out. Keeping things small forces you to be efficient, creative, and decisive.

Maybe even find ways to store parts in the warm house without being caught. :ninja:

Wish I had more of an update after so long, but it’s really been a tough winter for my wife and I, plenty of medical issues, and cold days that seemed to always fall on my available weekends. I’ve had a pile of material sitting here for a while but just haven’t had the availability to get on it.

My wife was awesome with giving me a hand with making the giant door jam and hanging trim this morning. The one door came out fitting the opening almost perfect if it weren’t for some clumsy concrete work. Suppose I ought to get on building the other before another six months go by.

I'd give you a hand, but I'm not leaving the property for a while :)

We have been 'fixing fence' to keep the long eared rodents out so maybe we can have a yard in the back at least.

Doors are as far as they’re going to get for a while. Had the first occupant today too. Brought the CJ down to do a quick clean up on all the scraps piling up.
