Looking for a new under seat tank for my 1970, wondering if anyone has used TheGasTankStore.com before?, any comments or issues with there products? It's hard to find the V6 tank with the lock ring style sending unit clamp. Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with the gas tank store, but I think just about all of the aftermarket under seat tanks all come from the same place: Omix/Rugged Ridge. And while I am not a big fan of Omix/RR, I bought one of their rear tanks (through Walcks) and its was good. MTS also makes tanks for - I think most are plastic if that is your interest, not sure if they make metal version, but might be worth checking out - no personal experience but others on here can chime in with regard to MTS quality, but I think the general consensus is they are good?

Or as your in Idaho - contact ITLKSEZ and see if you can pay him to make you a tank....:ninja:

Hey Fino, thanks for the info, I'd call ITLKSEZ, but I'm sure his cost is way outside my budget!

Sorry no, my only painting experience was some body work and paint on my old 1974 Porsche 914. Came out looking ok, but not so much that I would volunteer to paint someone else's rig.

You can adapt the V-6 lock ring sending unit to a new metal tank fairly easy.I have pictures if you have interest in that route. I bought a MTS tank and send it back paying freight both ways. POS as far as i'm concerned. waste of money. mike

    Mike,
I'm curious what you didn't like about the MTS under seat tank?

I felt it was poor quality and poorly designed. Just not for me or my build. mike

Thanks for the response, I was wondering how the poly tank looked, I'm not a fan based on images, but didn't know if I had other options. I would prefer the metal tank. Ye please post pic's of your conversion. Much appreciated!

This is how I did my sending unit.If I would of had my metal lathe I could have made some nice turned adaptor rings .These work fine and no leak.Just watch where the float arm goes because there are baffles in the metal tank that interfere with the movement of the arm. I bought a new tank, had the locking ring cut out of the old tank and put it the new tank.

I know someone local that uses MTS tanks all the time in builds with no issues. These are custom builds though and not restorations and they really aren’t suitable for a restorations. Eliminates rust issues. I have one waiting to go in one of my Jeeps right now when I have time to work on it.

Hey all, thanks for the feedback, very helpful. I'm leaning towards the steel, following Mike's recommendation for sending unit. Much appreciated!
