dont know if this is the place to ask but I do have an M38A1 with the CJ dash, was curious if anyone knows about blackout driving lamps mounted on driver fenders and how to wire it. Looks like an old stereo jack cable may of been plugged in the back of the light but researched for months and can’t find any attachments to back of lamp.. it’s manufactured from aurora cable and even their site has nothing on wiring..

We do need pictures to see exactly what you have. It might be just a matter of the right connectors needed.

Originally there was a three switch unit just above the steering wheel but it's probably gone since you have a CJ dash. That controlled all of the lights. If there is nothing left of the original wiring I would just turn it into a spot light of some sort or remove it. Unless you are restoring it to original, I would upgrade the wiring and not worry about using Douglas connectors. I would just switch over the standard crimp connectors. You can remove the blackout bulb and put a bulb with a standard standard connector in there.

Yes I was thinking of using it with a rocker switch but the connector is what I sort of need unless I re wire it somehow

You can remove that blackout bulb and put a different type of bulb in there. The new bulb will define what connector you need to use. Just find something that is a close fit and try to come up with a way to adapt it. The blackout bulb is useless unless you want to restore it for originality. After that, run some wires to a switch on your dash and you will now have a nice spotlight that looks original. The original blackout was used so convoys could follow each other at night and they are not designed to light up the trail. Pretty much useless.

I'd restore it and wire up a military 3-lever switch.
Driving with the blackout driving light as your only source of illumination is quite fun.

I want to see pics of your Jeep too, of course. [IMG]

Interesting, it says it's 12 volt. Probably has Packard connectors.
