My '89 Volvo runs two belts to the alternator with an engine driven fan. If you don't run a matched set both belts don't last long. Finding a matched set is frustrating because no one seems to know what a matched set is...

Best place to get a matched set of belts now days is an industrial supplier. Mcmaster.... Applied.... Kaman..... Many industrial applications require tighter tolerances than automotive...

Most truck dealers would know what a matched set of belts are.

Been running for two years a dual belt system on my amc 360. I read about matched set....but since i didn't find any i just order two belt from napa....been there for two years without issues. Also ran a idler pulley with a 90 degree contact and belt still look brand new after two years of use.

I haven’t had much time to put toward this, but what little time I have had has gone toward the PS pump mount. The location of this is critical. 1/4” too low and it’ll hit the axle. 1/4” too high and it’ll interfere with the lower radiator hose. I think it’s ready to cut the plate and get final placement of the brackets.

let me rephrase that....your fab skills always effing piss me off...too nice....I am not sure why some of you even start with a jeep carcass, you should just start with metal...or maybe you should start with rock from a mine and smelt it to get the metal first....at least then maybe I could be of some use....I am going to go back to drinking coffee and trying figure out how to mount a radiator that already has the brackets and mount holes. With a little luck I will be able to find some bolts and nuts that fit, but it will probably take me a few tries and I will probably cross-thread at least one of the nuts....

    Yup

Thanks guys. I’ve said it before, but having the knowledge of how to do this, combined with the disease of an artist’s mind and education is a true curse.

I’d love to just make a square plate with three tabs on it for this mount. And that’s how it started on the template. But then it grows and morphs, and two tabs join into one with only requiring a little bend, and then it incorporates a stiffener, and I end up spending a friggin week on a piece that could’ve taken an hour. :banghead: A piece that will be completely hidden.

All for an audience of one; that annoying voice in my head.

Mount is finally done. That round stock came from an XJ’s tie rod.

Clearance is so tight. I’m going to hit the Volvo forums to try to source a smaller pulley, plus see if I can fit a 1/2” shorter belt to adjust the pump a little higher. Right now it won’t contact anything at full stuff, but there is zero room for variables. It will tuck down between the pumpkin and tie rod.

Engine compartment is done! Now I can begin disassembly to weld the cage.

I’m going to strip the cage and body, install the clutch, mount the fuel tank, hook up the wiring and (hopefully) get it running, then I can start stripping the harness down to bare basics.

And really resist the urge to drive it around as a bare frame. :twist:

Exactly what is in my mind....people looking to my ruff body (10 years of trailing) but they wont look under the frame all the work and hd part i made for the jeep.

And sometime i just sat in the garage looking to all the work i've done 6 year's ago and as you said i dont know how i was able to do all that work in a short time now i have a family ahah.

Keep on the good job, i had my motivation in 2013's thinking to do thing right and the most HD possible so i wont have to re-work stuff. I must have been no so bad since the only thing i had the start over is the rear bumper as it was the last thing i didin the frame swap. I used to be tired of 2 months doing 40-50 hours on the jeep every week along my 50 hours normal job, so i did cut the corner...

I managed to fit a 1” shorter belt on that pump; it lifted it about 3/4” higher away from the axle. I’m a little more comfortable with that.

    @Walt Couch
If you’re keeping track at home, the front cage section is 32# and the sway bar is 14#. :coffee:
