I have a bushing coming NOVAK.
Also got the pilot bushing out of crank and it tells the exact story as may theory. No doubt about it. you can clearly see the gouging they did in id, the marks showing it was cocked in the bore and marks showing they attempted to hide the fact it was in crooked.

    thanks to all.

I'm not done yet. I'm going thru the NOVAK clutch KNOWLEDGE info on their website to insure my clutch parts are technically correct and the system works as it should concerning disk air gap, disk wear considerations, clutch fork ratio is correct and throw out bearing length is correct.
One good thing about the issue is I have learned a lot about clutch systems and how they should work. Too bad 'll forget it all in about year or so.
One disappointing aspect of the T86 to T90 alteration was the lack of technical info from the supplier. Specifically the fact that the T90 pilot bushing ID is larger than the T86 bushing. They supplied the correct bushing for the T90, but I had no idea it was different in size. I suppose I need to take ownership of this lack of this knowledge, but a simple note saying the standard alignment tool for the t86 can't be used for proper installation of the friction disk and the bushing HAS to be changed. I guess I would of discovered the error when my transmission input shaft would not stab into the bushing if I had not changed it. Anyway I know this now and hopefully my adventure will help others.

Finally Got the transmission stabbed this morning. Borrowed a trans jack and put a new pilot bushing in, took my time and it went nice and smooth, SO the reason for this whole issue (grinding when trying to shift into gear) was due to a pilot bushing/ input shaft interference caused by shop ( see above). So despite the transmission supplier insisting twice that the grinding symptom was a clutch problem, he, in this case was wrong, TWICE.

Congratulations nice job. When I do a clutch I always hand fit the bushing to the input shaft before installing it in the crank. Like you I have been there done that, not fun.

I believe what Herm was saying was it was not a transmission problem and it was not. Technically you could say the pilot bushing is part of the clutch assembly and then he would have been correct.

Didn’t mean anything by it. Yes, Herm is a grumpy old guy. His communication skills are a bit lacking but he knows his stuff. I bought some a one piece tie rod kit from him once and only got one tie rod. He said that was impossible. 3 days later he called and said his bad and sent the others out. He did make me a greatdeal on 2 overdrives and shifters though. Glad you got your going. Did you speak to the shop about the pilot bushing issue?

Yes I showed the shop the "evidence" and they agreed, gave me my money back for their work plus 20 and a new bushing. No hard feelings either, so it worked out ok.
