    Thanks for the reply!

yeah-- i'm REALLY wary of this, but it seems to take about the same as i remember it taking without the filter.

    using the NAPA 1010 filters.

Here's a shot of the modified filter-- I did the first 100 mile oil change yesterday.

The oil pressure is off of the main galley-- so it is after the filter.

I was thinking of putting a check valve on the return line, too. I just figured any siphoning will eventually overcome the check valve spring.

It is a 'high-performance' gear pump. I have a good gyrotor available.

Here is my version of full flow oil system, I did it in 2006 when I bought a NOS Military surplus F 134. I later moved the oil filter to the fire wall under the steering column to shorten the oil lines
faster. I crank it with the kill switch off to build up oil pressure before I start it after long storage.

If the Dauntless v6 has a oiling system that needs upgrading or is considered a less than stellar design the F head is downright pathetic by comparison and anything that would aid it should be done to improve it.

I love to tinker also. I've made many of a repair to something that wasn't broke.lol
I was remembering my 15year past when I repaired air cooled VW engines. They only have an oil screen, with holes bout like a window screen? And I never tore into 1 with oil dammage?

Hey all- glad to se ECJ5.com.is still up & running!

Just want to follow up and let it be know that this system is still working well. I drive it to work a few times a week.

I plan on upgrading the rubber hose & hoseclamps to hardlines, braided stainless, and A/N fittings, one of these days... gonna add an inline cooler too.

Be sure you want a cooler. Oil needs to be warm to work properly . I have trouble getting my 134 to run on the thermostat , when outside temp in the 70s or less. Now a cooler with a thermostat is ok.

X2 on the oil cooler thermostat, you want the oil hot enough to get the condensated water out of the crank case. 230 deg F if I recall or about 20deg above the boiling point of water.

I'm glad to hear this motor is still strong.

Good idea, thank you, I hadn't thought about that.

I am in SC and the CJ tends to creep up the temp gauge. I think an oil temp gauge is in order before I put a cooler in the mix.

I would have never considered doing this. My jeep didn't even have an oil filter from the day it was built until I bought it in 2009. I hope the filter keeps pressure where it needs to be, and keeps the jeep running strong

Way back 25 yrs ago when I bought my ‘56 an old timer who is still around said to just take the filter off.
He said something about the stock setup only filtering a fraction of the oil and even caused starving of a bearing. I took it off and change the oil once a yr.

Yup. The old Ford flatheads didn't have any filter, but had a reputation for being un-killable.

I just change the oil often in my '34. Over twenty years so far and oil pressure is still good.

I have since moved my filter closer to the oil pump, it is now on the firewall under the steering column, still works fine, no problems.
