Been getting fewer things done since the weather has gotten nicer (required to work around the house now).

I trimmed the side of the transmission case and transmission pan to give me a little wiggle room for the front driveshaft. I made a 3/16 thick reinforcement for the pan. I don't know if it will have sealing issues, but if it does I intend to look into having an entire pan lip made out of thicker stock.

This picture shows the before. It isn't a good indicator of clearance because depending on where I stood, the gap looked much larger or smaller than it really is. Keep in mind that the driveshaft is lower than the edge of the tranny where it appears to be touching.

This picture shows where I trimmed the case and pan...

And this is how it fits, this also shows the aluminum heat shield I made to hopefully give the fuel lines and wiring some relief.

This is just a picture of how everything got routed before the tub went back on, hopefully for the last time.

Passenger side drops with Auto trans's are always close............I like to go down the drivers side if possible although that side can also get convoluted.

Since it has been raining again, I thought I would see how the 1/2 top I bought awhile ago works with the Jeep. First thing I did was set the windshield frame I intend to use on the Jeep which was no small feat considering I had no assistance. It is a heavy beast.

The angle of the front hoop looks closer to that of a 76 and newer windshield angle, which is weird because the bar was built for a CJ6. It clears the support arms for the windshield though so I am not complaining.

Then I dragged in the top and gave it a closer look over. When I bought it I didn't care about condition as long as it wasn't rusted out. I was aware of some dents but the damage was a little worse than I noticed in the heat of the moment.

What is hard to see in the pictures above is that the sides of the top actually pushed up into the top bending the mounting flange where they bolt together. Also the entire edge of the door opening on the roof is pushed in. Not easy to see in the photos, but almost 1/2" in when you put a straight edge across it.

So, before setting it on the Jeep for a mock up, I decided to unbolt the roof from the sides of the top. I could have done it after a test fit but it was bugging me. This is what I found under the mating area on the driver's side.

    My hi-tech straightening process...
You can't see it but there is a piece of 1/2" flat stock slid up in the rain gutter which made a handy dolley for hammering the gutter back into the approximate shape that it was supposed to be. I used the clamps as little metal presses on many of the dents because I can't use a hammer on the interior side of the lip due to no clearance.

    Some progress...

I like it .............nice job on straightening out that damage.......just don't weld or braze anything up until you have dry fitted that top a few times.

and whats up with what looks like an original 40 Ford in that same bay?

I would used some heat shield sleeve. I found that even with the aluminum shield I was still getting bubbling in the tank from the heat.

I normally move the Ford out when working on the Jeep but it was raining. I will take your advise about not welding it up until I fit it.

I probably should have done that earlier in the process. I will look for something that I can wrap around the tubes since trying to slide it over would be a pain at this point.

I took Tarry99's advice and resisted the urge to weld anything before I test fitted it. Got the top setting up on the tub and really like the way it is going to look. My straightening job needs more work. Its hard to see in the photo but the vertical side of the top is still pushed up a bit into the top. Also found more dents and distortion. Now I am thinking of fitting a rear slider in to replace the stock window. I figure with the slider open and the windshield tilted up I should get a nice breeze at speed. The bulkhead in the picture is from a cj8. It isn't a perfect fit by any means but it is a really good place to start.

P.S. I am really grateful to Focker for Beamingpix. I can't believe how much easier posting photos is now that I have gotten used to "beaming" them from my phone and then just hitting the copy button when I am looking at them on the computer later. Shameless plug, I know. But it works great.

Not until just now. Should make it even easier.

Thanks! The roll bar is embarrassed to be on the same forum as yours.

I like it.......and regarding the tack welding on the top , I think once you get the top to like the body fit wise.......most of that welding , at least what you can get to in a reasonable manner , should be done there..........while also keeping in mind a piece of rubber sealer needs to be added to the equation also.

On your bulkhead.........might try turning it around and put it in from the bed side just for a look?..........In either case a suitable way of sealing that bed & top off to the weather needs to be addressed.........which may end up being another removable part from the top that can go in the bed separately when used with the top that seals those areas off in the bed while still sealing the top..........

I was able to slide the sleeve over my fuel lines. I see yours would be easier. My fuel and return lines run along the left side of the transmission, up the top side of the bellhousing to the back of the TBI. All pre-bent Factory GM lines.

Mine are pre-bent GM also but now they are zip tied to the wiring harness and the trans dipstick, and the tub is really close to all of it. I will give it another look but I don't think it will fly.
Thanks! I like Scramblers. Would love to own one. Only negative is out here they are all "smog" vehicles which is a pain, plus, their prices are getting crazy.

The only thing new is the surface rust on the exposed metal. It got shoved back and then shoved back some more. It may even go up for sale but I am not sure. I couldn't get nearly enough out of it without putting more time in it. Not sure if it ever happened to anyone on here but I looked around my place one morning and realized that it looks like a tweaker/hoarder lives here. I embarrassed myself. Been trying to clean it up and get rid of things that most likely will never get done.
