Used my "redneck boom truck" setup to get the D44 for my son's Willys out of storage and into the garage so i can start working on it....

Great job. I would have popped a couple holes in wall above the garage door. (y)

Last Saturday I found the seats the previous owner had in the jeep. I think the seats were from a Mustang. All I wanted were the original jeep brackets the seats were mounted to. I ground all the rust of the brackets and resprayed them.

A year or two ago I found some old CJ5 jeep seats on craigslist. Some were bad and some were not so bad, but the deal was all or nothing, for free. The best driver's side seat had all four mounting bolts cut off. How do I get those rusted bolts out? I'm like Tennessee Tuxedo. Whenever I can't figure something out, I turn to Professor Whoopee (aka ITLKSEZ). He suggested just grinding the rust off the seat mounts, then welding the heads of four bolts to the metal.

I tried ITLKSEZ's suggestion and it worked. He said to have a spray bottle handy. I'm glad I did because the foam was super flammable.

Originally, I mounted the seats to the bracket and then tried to install the bracket in the jeep. There was no way I could tighten the rear bracket bolts with the seat already mounted. I removed the seat, bolted the bracket to the tub, and then installed the seat. It took my wife's small hands to fit the washers and nuts on the seat bolts.

I just need a steering wheel and then I'm ready to take this on a test drive.

Pulled the intake and heads off of the 304 .....#4 Cylinder has a nice big crack, bummer. Looks like it will get the 258 that's looking for a home. Good to have family that are pack rats LOL. No biggie, its just a toy :)

Jeff, you sure you want to do that instead of rebuilding a fresh short block? I have a block I want to sell for cheap. Bore my block, stuff in a new cam, fresh set of pistons, slap your heads back on it (or my spares, also for sale), and you are back in business.

Today I spent way too much time getting little brackets and things primered.

With paint I'm quickly realizing how much my "shop" limits me. Redoing parts because I'm not noticing missed spots or thin coats due to bad lighting, waiting for days warm enough to paint, spending a half hour getting tools out each time, etc. It's maddening.

I spent yesterday and today trying to put the Jeep back together after my attempt at painting it. I had to build a frame to mount the TJ seats to, as well as trim some of the foam and cut the two rods off each side for the tumbler feature because they made the bottom of the seat 40" wide. Too wide to fit in the back of a '62, :banghead:. But I overcame.:bananatool:

I was not able to put my sticker on the tailgate for two reasons. 1st the sticker is too big. 2nd I will eventually buy a new Tailgate as this one is pretty much toast. Someone drilled holes in it at one point and mounted a spare over the Willys Badge, and it stress cracked all around it.

Next on the list is to get the new wiring harness installed. And hopefully start putting a few miles on it.

Thank you. It was nice to be able to pay homage to my Dad the man who introduced me to Jeeps in 1984. It makes sense that the sticker is on the hood, so he can look down and smile.

I like it, you are very creative! What is the story on the steering wheel covering?

    Thanks

It is paracord. There were several splits in the plastic or whatever he black material is. So w wrapped it in paracord. I seen on another post someone fixed there’s with body filler. I may do that one day but the paracord actually gives the week some texture. I made two grab handles and covered the grab bar as well. I haven’t installed the grab bar on the wood dash yet.

It was what my Dad would say when we put the Scrambler in 4wd. I would say Dad there are only 4 wheels. He would say what about the steering wheel.
He past away in November just shy of 85th Birthday. Man I miss him

    Hello Cheep,
From your pic's, your tail gate does not look very 'Toasty' ? For the price of a new one, I would plug the holes with some push in type plugs & paint it yellow ?
