Voltmeter wire can be itty bitty stuff. Theyre wired in parallel with the load or source (ie battery) and draw almost no current.

Ammeters are wired in series with the load so must be rated for, and wired for, the full expected load. So ammeters usually have much larger wire.

Oh I see what your asking. I was only asking for the Voltmeter circuit, thanks. Any ground will do for the Voltmeter? Will any hot work? I just need to sense the Voltage from any point in the electrical system that is always on when running?

Yes. Connect to switched power for the positive and the negative to any decent ground.

Sorry if it's bad form around here to bump this thread, but it has many similarities to my questions.

1966 CJ5A, F134, no AC, no radio, pretty stock. Motorola alternator had a good run but is now bad. Rebuild cost $100, so I'm looking at new alternators. A comparable BBB (who apparently owns Remy) can be had for $70 on amazon.

I've read about the Delco-Remy 10SI upgrade for more amps. Question - is this a drop-in alternator, or will brackets need to be fabricated and pulleys changed out? I haven't found much info on fitment.

I'm also curious about the normal amp draw of the stock vehicle. Even if I eventually added additional lights, there appear to be good LED options that only draw about 6 amps, so not sure I need the additional capacity, and would like to keep things as simple as possible.

    All thoughts appreciated!

So your original Motorola stock alt was a 32 amp unit. A Delco 37 amp would be fine for your amp load and the Delco 10SI is a direct bolt on with a spacer change ( maybe flat washers). You will need to change some of the wiring but that is covered adnausium on this forum.

    Thanks Walt,

Just so I'm clear - no pulley change? Is there a preferable clocking position? The Mad Electrical article would indicate this 63 amp 3:00 unit is the one to get?

I was able to cut about 3/4" off the 10 si One Wire mounting bracket and bolt it right on a Motorola bracket, and make it line up with the crank pully on my 134 F head. By changing to a 5/8" wide pully, I was able to use the stock Willys fan belt, too. Good Luck

    Thanks Rick,

Would you mind confirming that I have the same alternator in the Amazon link above?

Is this the bracket you used? Delco Alternator Bracket | 10si and 12 si | eBay
