I once fermented a glut of watermelons in a British army surplus water Jerry can. After a week or two I found that it would make my stomach burn a bit and make me dizzy but was undecided whether that was a buzz or poisoning. After several more mods with more yeast, more sugar, and more tasting I decided that if I couldnt discern between wine and poison then I should probably toss it. And so I did, after a few more tastes.

Made a taller air cleaner stud to fit the Dodge assembly.

11" brakes and MC from an intermediate bolted up (without modification) to a V6 MC mount on a 3A frame. Connected last 2 lines and bled. There's one, maybe two, fittings that leak ever so slightly but I'll deal with them tomorrow.

Nice work. Tough to tell from the picture angle, but if you plan to run a Ross steering box, you may want to test fit it in there to make sure it fits between those lines and the frame.

Going with a Saginaw box (already mounted). Steering shaft can be seen in the pic.

Changed the hub seal on my bantam trailer and discovered bad bearings luckily had enough spares around to make it minty again.

Stripped all the diamond plate guards, sidesteps and windshield off. In hopes of spraying some paint soon.

    Got new oil hoses:

Installed upper hose and a new fuel pump:

New oil line is a tight fit next to the new fuel pump. It just looks wrong. Are they supposed to be that close together?

Part way through carb rebuild but NAPA kit didnt have acellerator pump red umbrella check valve so ordered from Mike's Cab Parts (along with bigger jets and power valve that comes in earlier). Installed an electric choke, too.

Throttle butterfly screws were #5 (try finding those) so tapped to #6-32 and installed SHCS with blue loctite.

Added felt washers to exposed ends of throttle shaft. Shaft wasnt sloppy enough to warrant bushings but figured oiled felt would help a bit to manage any potential vacuum leak and dirt intrusion.

I'm working on wiring my '68 CJ5. I neglected to plumb a hydraulic brake switch when I installed installed the brake lines, so I ordered an electric brake light switch from RockAuto. The hanging pedals I'm using don't have any mount or accommodation for a brake switch so I knew in advance I'd have to rig up some sort of bracket. When the brake switch arrived, I was surprised to find it's a normally closed switch. I'd have to figure out a way to hold the switch open until the brake pedal was pushed. I fabricated a bracket to hold the switch.

Then I welded a little flag to the brake pedal arm, on the other side of the fulcrum. The flag holds down the brake light switch when the pedal is in its resting position. As soon as the pedal is pressed, the arm releases the switch button, and current flows through the switch to the brake lights.

The tail lights were in bad shape. With one of them, the bulb socket was missing, along with the snap ring that holds in the lens. On the other light, the bulb socket was so rusted, the spring mechanism wouldn't move and I couldn't get continuity through the wires to the bulb. I ordered a couple of generic sockets off of eBay.

The sockets were too large to fit through the holes in the tub. I used a bench grinder to grind down the socket's plastic housing until it'd fit through the hole. Then I JB welded the socket in the old tail light housing. I also JB welded in two new mounting bolts.

The tail lights are now wired up and working. I don't have a snap ring for the passenger side lens, so I used four dabs of hot melt glue (where the snap ring sits) to keep the lens in place.

Yesterday actually, but my little scamp was used again as a work horse. Had the opportunity to jump on a 7000# two post lift at a screaming deal. Granted, I don’t have a shop to put it in yet. Couldn’t pass it up so it’ll stay under a tarp for now. Maybe someday I’ll actually use the winch for vehicle recovery.

That is really what made me buy it. I didn’t want to mess with external speakers (it does have outputs so I could if I wanted to though). (y)

I unfortunately haven’t got the Jeep out yet to test it since this was a concern of mine. I can tell you though just listening to it sitting in the Jeep turned the whole way up, I don’t think I’ll have any problems hearing it. It’s very loud and surprisingly doesn’t crackle or cut out at the highest volume setting.
