I've never owned a Commando, and have been looking. Today I bought this '70. Needs some work, but I got a fair enough deal, and I don't mind doing the work.

Yep, but has a spring over with 2" wide CJ springs on the front. The passenger floor board is totally rusted out, but I ordered panels to fix it.

Wow, looks like a nice foundation!

    What’s the plans for it?

Just saw this one recently listed as a Barrett Jackson Jeep. Wouldn’t be my first wheel choice, but thought the paint/decal combo looked really good:

    Cool! I like it.

One of my classmates in high school had one, and he would bomb around town like it was a hot rod. My geology professor at JC had one, and drove it daily. Rode in it once or twice, and it seemed like it swayed a lot - must be the soft rear springs they come with.

This one is really soft; it's spring over with 2 1/2" wide front CJ springs. The passenger floor board is basically gone, as are the inner rockers. I've already ordered panels to fix all of the structural rust. Beyond that, I'm going to rebuild the carb, replace the timing chain, and start driving it.

If SOA already done maybe a sway bar will tame it down for road use. Disconnects if you still want trail articulation.

Are you sure they're CJ springs? The later Saginaw equipped C101s had wider springs. I can't remember what the actual width was, though.

Certainly the rear springs are wider for all the Jeepsters, maybe 2.5"? I've never seen a factory Commando with anything but 1.75" front springs. Maybe they existed - this race car looks lwider than 1.75" -

I have to admit, those things are growing on me the more I see what people are doing to them.

I saw this a while ago, pretty cool video:

Yes. As far as I know, all C101s' had 1 3/4" springs in the front. I know for a fact this one did.

OK, thanks. I thought I remembered the springs being different on the later C101s. I need to take a closer look at my 2. Maybe one or both of them is modified and I never realized it.

Interesting. The '70 and '71 I have are both saginaw equipped. I wonder if the switch to saginaw occurred mid-year. What is the build month on your '70?

I need to look. I was told it was a mid-year change. I was bummed, but 101's don't grow on trees anymore..;)

So I went out and measured my unknown year, saginaw equipped parts rig. It, like my '70 and '71 has 2" wide front springs with the same shackles that adapt the wider spring to the shackle hanger.

You're distracting me from prepping my 3B for the Willys Reunion trip. I'm itching to get my 101 back on the road!
