Cj Padded Dash

Did Jeep ever make a padded dash for early CJ5's?

 

The Renegades had one

 

1971 Renegade II

 

73 Super Jeep had same padded dash, but should be white. To match a classy gentleman's belt and zipper boots.

 

If I had only known I would have saved my efforts for something else. Oh well, guess I should have deterred to the ecj5 brainpool first.

 

The Renegade dash was carried over as an option for the intermediates. Lots of the intermediate Jeeps have a padded dash.

 

Well, I searched all over and didn't find any, anywhere so tried my own.

 

“Padded?”, uh I mean sorta. You’d have to really lean down a bunch to catch it instead of the windshield if your Jeep suddenly became stationary from speed. But yeah, mine looks identical to Mike’s above. Love that Baja Yellow!

 

Hardly functional as any sort of protection, but there is nothing quite like luxuriating in a well-appointed interior of fine Corintian pleather. But be warned, some people apparently grab the dash pad while embarking and debarking so I get to glue mine back together.

OEM? I thought the CJ's were "utility" vehicles. But, the military helicopters I flew did have ashtrays and lighters. They were "utility" choppers.

 

This is original to my 70 DJ5.

 

Got a dash pad to install in a 70 CJ5 What do you do where the wipe wires go behind the pad? There is not a notch/groove in the pad.

I don’t have a grove. The wires are flat and my dash pad is not that tight against the dash in that area.
