This is an eaton ngr switch that came with my locker...

I don't really like it (don't want all the plastic and oversized switch that I have no place to fit in my dash or under) and think I can replace it with a typical 3 blade SPST switch. I think that is all this is....based on the wiring diagram all it does it activate a relay. It looks complicated with 6 terminals, but only 3 of them are used. It has +12V, signal wire to relay box (that also includes some other stuff - diode suppressor?), and third wire to ground. I have a perfect little hole in my dash that will fit a classic rocker switch and seems like a good place to mount this switch if it will work....Additionally, an older version of the wiring diagram shows a Carlin switch like this which is SPST- as far as i can tell from the wiring diagram the new ngr swtich is the same thing.

    Either switch should be fine.

    Nice choice for a locker....

I’ve never put one of these together, but I’d think you can run a wire from your new fuse box to one side of your desired toggle, and then another wire from the toggle to the differential...or the relay if they recommend one between the diff mechanism and the toggle switch. 5 amp fuse should be enough. The ground wire on the provided switch is probably for switch illumination.

Will that switch run both front and rear lockers? You're only running one, right? If its just supplying juice to a coil on the relay, it can be whatever you like. The relay is just a remote electrical switch that closes contacts to let the real juice flow. It can be 5 volts or whatever they designed it to be. Make sure that the switch is compatible with the voltage of the coil in the relay.

This is what I need to find out...but as far as I can tell, its just being used like a SPST switch to activate the relay which then pulls the main current (15 amp breaker protected) direct from 12V. The switch just needs to be connected to keyed 12V - which for me will come from the new fusebox (was actually planning ahead for this at the time). The ground is just for illumination in the switch - I plan to use a simple SPST toggle/rocker with a small LED indicator in it (so will need the ground). Think I can get that finished up tonight....the primary wiring going from the 12V through the relay/coil to the locker is nicely wrapped and weather proofed....but is ridiculously long for a short wheelbase jeep....so either need to cut into and shorten it (which I am not so inclined to do), or to figure out a way to store/wrap the extra length.

Oh - and I am just running a rear locker at this time (and probably ever).

The relay will say what the voltage for the coil is. Its almost definitely 12volt DC..

The amazing thing about relays is that the coil can be switched at any voltage ac or dc to use an electro magnet that pulls the contacts closed and sully as much juice as the contacts will carry. So, a 5 volt coil can control huge amounts to a motor or anything you like.

I doubt very highly the switch provided has any capacity to change voltage, but look at the coil to make sure. If you apply too much it will release the magic smoke and will no longer work.
