6 Lug Hubs On A Dana25/27?

Has anyone on here messed around with finding some 6 lug hubs that would swap onto a Dana25/27?

    Why?

I have some 6 lug steel wheels that I think would be cool to use on the Jeep. I've seen that the bolt pattern for the Chevy Dana 44 disc brake bracket is the same, so it got me to wondering if you could just swap the spindle and hub as well.

I know the Ford 5-lug hubs can be swapped to the 6-lug Jeep open-knuckle 44, so I presume you can go the other way. Were there ever any closed-knuckle 6-lug Dana axles?

60-66 chevy trucks had closed knuckle axles. The K20 I have has a D44 that is 8 lug. I would imagine that a K10 would be 6.

Seems like a lot of work, for little gain. Now you have to do something about the rear axle.

Maybe you could buy 5X5.5 to 6 bolt Chevy adaptors? They make all kinds of adaptors for different wheels.

Is the stub shaft long enough and can you find an external wheel hub that will work with your current lockouts or internal lockout hub with the correct spline count for the 25/27 outer axle shaft? Might be better to have the lug holes welded up on a set of dana 25/27 hubs and brake drums and then re-drill for the 6 lug pattern

    Seems like the easiest way.

That sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

I'm all for weird conversions, but you'd have more time/money into swapping to 6-lug hubs/axles than you would have to just buy the same wheels in a 5-lug pattern.

There's an old automotive adage that goes something like, "The most expensive conversion is the one that uses free parts."

Free jeeps are always the most expensive option!

That's been my thought reading this thread.
Sell six lug wheels, use $ for five lug wheels.

Again, my thought was that if a disc brake bracket from a Chevy 44 or 10 bolt had the same bolt pattern that it could bolt up to a 25/27 knuckle, then the spindles would be able to swap as well. Unfortunately I sold a Chevy 44 a couple of months ago before I started wondering about this. It looks like no one has really tried it, and I get that. I just like to be aware of what parts can swap where

But what would you do for the rear axle?

Hadn't gotten that far yet, worse (and maybe only option) would be to have some axles cut for it
