    Dug out the coated steel tubing i have for the brake lines.

    Tried my hand at making the front ‘s’ hard brake lines from the kingpin mount to the wheel cylinder.

    Tons of fun. Wondering if it would be much more fun with a $300 tool set vs my el cheapo $30 set. May be cussing that choice soon

    Managed to make two good ones, no idea yet if they will fit - may be too longish. Split one end on the first attempt of the second set. Not sure if it had a bur or if i didnt use enough wd40 or... but i got it right on the next one.

    Realized the Mount for the “s” is still on my old axle king pins. Nothing looking like them in my parts of refurb and shiny.

    Fitting the fun begins romorrow.

    Learned about Oklahoma's (and many other states) year -of-manufacture license plate laws, Then dug this out of my pile o parts. For $20 i can use this in place of my current tag as long as I have that tag stored in my vehicle

    Worked on makin a gun rack that I can remove easily when in off season. Used 2” clamps that they use in theater shows to hold the lights. $9.00 on Amazon. The ATV mounts were $30 and the steel I had laying around.

    I made floor pan supports out of 3/4" x 1 1/2" rectangular steel. I need to replace the driver's side floor pan next.

    While I had the welder out, I worked on patching lots of extra holes in the tub. This hole, for example, a previous owner cut through the hood support bracket in order to run a heater hose into the passenger compartment. He actually cut two holes like this in the firewall. I wonder why he'd cut it through a structural component, rather than two inches lower?

    I cut two patches for those big rough holes and welded them in place. I welded many other excess holes in the firewall.

    Well, what was supposed to be just swapping the case input bearing resulted in me yanking the trans out (you know, while I was at it) and rebuilding the trans too, with new bearings and bushings. Man, the quiet is awesome! After driving it quite a bit, no new noises popped up. No more “improvements” for the rest of the year. I just want to enjoy my Jeep for a while now.

    I can relate. Started with a noisy rear transmission bearing..."while I have it all out"...SNOWBALL EFFECT!! Sure is nice though when it fires right up, runs nice and goes down the road like it should. Still have an internal front axle issue to address, but that will be a winter project. 2wd only is okay, want to enjoy the last bit of Fall driving while the weather is still nice.

    image.jpeg image.jpeg Tried to replace the seal on the rear end. It didn't seem to be leaking, but I thought I better do it while the body was off. I pulled the yoke off and drilled a hole in the old seal and yanked it with a dent puller. I couldn't believe how well it worked. Well the new seal doesn't look like the old. I think I put it in backwards. Any advise out there? Thanks

    Yeah, that is backwards. For future reference, the spring on the rubber seal always goes toward the oil.

    If that is a Timken seal, you will also notice a small bead of silicone around the edge (helps it seal against the housing when all the way in). National seals are the same way. I leave out the gasket...no need for the gasket and the silicone.

    Thanks for the reply Tim. I was actually able to get it out with a pair of needle nose vise grips. It was in good shape, so I reversed it and drove it in. Seems good. I'll work on the front next.

    Also good if you break an axle as the wheel/hub can continue to support vehicle weight (full floating) and the jeep can continue to roll even if only driven in front wheel drive, or towed.

    These are the plans I started with, somebody posted a link to this on here earlier this year but i can't find the link now. I did not draw these up, I just started with this and made a few changes to use the material I had on hand.
