I've have, for the last few years years, been getting the craps of my sockets falling off my el cheap socket holders. This year, I decided to do something about. After researching and looking first hand at some other types of holders, I bought one of these magnetic units. No twist lock crap. Just a good solid spring loaded ball. And the magnet is substantial to hold a full set of standard and deep well 3/8 drives sockets upside down on a metallic surface.

These ain't cheap....... I am....... and I still ordered 3 more after I received my first one and liked it a lot. Only thing I don't like......I've only found the 3/8 drive version..........the 1/4 and 1/2 drive individual holders are available separately (not on a rail) but, then I'll end up with a bunch of 3/8 holders I don't need.

Out of stock through Amazon but available elsewhere. I really like these holders and will eventually have my box completely outfitted with them. At 20 bucks a pop, it may take me a while but, it will be done.

    Looks very nice.

I use this style for my tool drawers. One drawer for SAE and one for metric.

If I had those and organized my boxes that way, I would need at least 3 more roll arounds to put all my stuff in. With rails I can put at least 3x as many sockets in the same drawer. My stuff is organized but space is at a premium. It looks nice but I just can’t afford the lost real estate.

Yep. I use the rails also-for the same reason. They have the additional advantage that you can grab the whole set at once-at least those that don't contain sockets that are so heavy they don't stay on. They work well for my dedicated Willys sets too.

I'm with Mcruff in terms of valuable real estate in my tool box. My box isn't that great and I need to make efficient use of the space. One day I'd like to buy a Macsimizer box or something like it but can't justify the price, even used. So that is a primary reason for this purchase. I can stand most of them up and will eventually be able to get all my sockets in one, maybe two, drawers.

Another reason is that, when I'm working on something in the driveway, especially something I'm real familiar with, I tend to just grab the whole rail of sockets because I'm not sure exactly what I might need. The old rails fall over and one or two sockets fall off and roll somewhere and I get made.

I have a couple of Hansen type with the posts but, even they use up too much space for me. These thing waste almost no space.

Going after the pliers drawer too, one of these days soon. I saw some cool organizers for them as well but, I'm still looking around.

What other tool box drawer organization things is everybody doing?

I have the wire rack type Amazon.com: Olsa Tools Pliers Holder Rack & Organizer For Tool Box Drawer Storage | Holds 16 Pliers | Red: Automotive but I think I prefer this Ernst Manufacturing No-Slip Plier Pro Organizer, 10 Tool - - Amazon.com

Of the two, I would recommend the Ernst. Neither will accommodate your larger pliers, but the Ernst seems to be more accommodating. With the wire rack, you have to thread the pliers handles into the opening in the wires. With the plastic rack, they simply lay in the gap. Ok if you have several pliers of roughly the size of an 8" slip joint or smaller. Also does not work with the pliers that spring open, like the RoboGrips. Drawer has to be deep enough.

Good point, Tim, about threading the pliers through the wire rack. I hadn't considered that and it would probably frustrate me every time I opened that drawer. I like the Ernst piece and it appears well made.

The deep draw thing is really holding me back for standing up my deep well sockets and, now, for the pliers move. I have some deep drawers but they are at the bottom half of the tool chest and not where I want my commonly used tools. I really want a 40"-50" wide roller box with 2 deep, wide, drawers at the top then a few full width shallow drawers. I found a few that I like but again, they are expensive even when found used. I believe my better half would be extremely upset if I dropped 1500 bucks on a used tool box, let alone 4000 or more on a new one. The big harbor freight boxes aren't designed the way I want my box so, they're out.

I got embarrassed after I looked at that nasty pliers drawer again................pulled them out vacuumed the drawer............counted ( 70 ) and stuck them all back in.............No way would the racks work for me , just not enough room..............but the deep drawers in this MAC box does the job quite easily.......For me knowing I have a tool to do a specific job is important.........sometimes finding it with tools scattered over a few locations........can be a problem....................so I guess the choices are if your in excess of tools get a bigger box or another tool box.............or maybe just have a garage sale?
