i have aftermarket wipers/motors for my 57. They are mounted on top. I read on here about people using marine replacements, as they work better, faster, stronger. I did not want to have to drill holes to mount bottom wipers. Does anyone know a brand or part number for marine replacements?? Thanks

I went to Defender Marine, bought a set of marine wipers, with arms and 9" blades. It was not cheap, but I wanted good wipers. You need long shafts to go through the defrosters to the front of the windshield frame. I made wedges to compensate for the angle of the windshield frame, so the motors would be 90 degrees to the glass, and welded them to the frame. It worked out great, I have good wipers, and can get replacement parts from Defender Marine. Good luck.

Find the best price you can on a Victory AA16651 or AA16653 depending on what shaft length you need, these things are for all intents & purposes the same as the factory supplied top mount electric wiper motors.

Quality on that style of wiper motor is all over the place- some are decent, some are complete crap. I've had both.

Not for top mount on a '57, surely?

I put my wipers on the bottom, Defender offered 3.5" shaft length and adjustable arms, that with the 9" blades worked out well for my 64 CJ 5. I heated the stainless arms and bent them so that they laid flat along the rubber gasket when parked. Out of sight and out of mind, wipers are something you hope you don't need, but when you do, you need ones that work well.

Those motors look different though. Top mounts don’t have the side motor look. Don’t think they would mount directly up to existing sight

In '67 they did come with the side motor wipers, which is why Howard posted the part numbers and made his comment. Some guys on here have them.

Unless you have a ventilating windshield then your '57 windshield should be the same as a '67 windshield. They are definitely bigger motors so I suggest going to a marine store, like West Marine for example. They probably have them in stock, or ones like them and get a first hand look at them.

That is in fact the same form factor/style the factory used when they started installing electric wipers with the introduction of the V6 engine & consequent loss of vacuum booster pump used with the F4 engines to run the Trico vacuum wipers.

I see you have a 283 Chev in there, but are you running a 6v generator? That could answer the "slow and slower" if its a 12v wiper on a 6v system.

No. Running a powermaster alternator. Everything is 12 volts. A while back I drove in the rain, like driving with someone wiping the windshield with a rag.

These are the factory Bosch wiper motors that were on my 67.

You may need spacers if you don't already have them. I found plastic bushings at Home Depot. [IMG]

Lots of different manufacturers made these things, the newer ones generally give you the ability to set the sweep angle as opposed to having different models back in the old days.
