I'm trying to help someone figure out the production month for his 1967 Tux Park. As many of you are no doubt aware, the chart in !! See this thread for Serial Number or VIN questions !! doesn't include the CJ5A / Tuxedo Park serial numbers. The CJ5A s/n's were evidently sequential for that particular model of jeep (8322), and do not correlate with the CJ5 (8305) model serial number production dates.

His CJ5A's serial number is 8322 A 16726. Does anyone have a link to a production month chart for the Tux Parks?

    Thanks!

    Maury,
Any details on the Tux, like original color? I'll guess Dauntless V6?
    Thanks-Donny

    Hi Donny,

I'll send you a PM with the owner's contact info. I'm sure he could answer any questions you might have about his Tux!

Mine is #15xxx. Apparently built in Dec. of '65 and titled 1966. Thanks for posting those numbers.

Can we keep those numbers somewhere?

:)Thanks for posting that chart Maury. I now know my Tux was built in the first few weeks of April.

I bought that data about 25 years ago from a retired Jeep engineer to publish a book on Jeep serials.
(This is not the Nort Young Data)
Derek posted a few pages on the 3B page and it was pirated so much in the first 2 weeks I decided not to bother writing the book since I figured I'd sell one copy...

I'm sure the sales of reference books are way down. I am one who still likes to touch paper and I know I am not alone. I'd buy a copy if it was reasonably priced.

It's about 300 pages without any decoding of serial nomenclature so if it ever gets printed it's not going to be anytime soon. The engineer I bought it from ran a serial number search service in the 1980's (100 bucks a vehicle)

After reading your post, having no idea who Norton Young was, I googled him and found the following reference excerpted from the book Jeep CJ 1945-1986, by Robert Ackerson:

"Most Jeep enthusiasts regard the production figures recorded by Norton Young, an engineer who worked at the Toledo plant, as the most accurate. Jeep historian Charlie Weaver worked with Norton Young's handwritten records and transformed them into electronic form, making them available to jeep hobbyists worldwide."

I immediately recognized the name of Charlie Weaver because ironically, I actually visited Charlie at his home in Winston-Salem, NC back in 2008. Just after meeting him, I made a post on the G503 site describing the fascinating story Charlie told me that day.

I didn't own a CJ at that time and was not a member of this site then, but I've copied and pasted that post on the Early Jeep Restoration and Research forum on this site, since that's probably the most appropriate place for this information. For anyone interested, here's a link to it:

This is the Engineering document that shows how production serials were tracked after Nort Young stopped

This is an older thread but, I have been working on the Grandfathers Tuxedo Park IV, and looking at the list of numbers trying to find the date for it. Looking at the original title is shows it as a 65 model but when looking at the list at the top of the post and the serial numbers it looks as if it was in 64 ? Pulled Tub off Today and started striping paint on fenders, under the white on one was red oxide primer the other was Olive Drab. Any feedback would be appreciated.

After reading all the threads for Tux IV I may have the answer, October 64 production but titled as a 65.

The year changeover back then was in September, so October 1964 is well within the 1965 production year. CJs from this era are unusual having few distinct year-to-year changes - unlike automobiles which changed all models each year to much fanfare... in September. As a child, I recall the excitement over the start of the school year, the new cars coming out, and the start of the new television season all around the same time.

Tuxedo Parks in '64 and '65 were a stand alone model and had unique features not found on regular CJ5/6s or the later V6 Tuxes. Yours was originally a column shift, and your dash has a unique cutout for the linkage. By the time the V6 was available, many of the early Tux features disappeared. The early Tuxes only came in 4 colors, and it looks like White Cap was your color. The other colors were light blue, red, and pastel green.
I still have the '64 Tux my dad bought new.

Mitch, your vin is not to far from the Tux I used to own. It had a vin of 8322 12071. No column shift. It was a 4 speed.

I will post some more pictures, I have it all off the frame at the moment, will have to put in floors driver and passenger side and a patch in the bed. Started stripping and sanding hood and fenders so next decision what color. Mine is a 3 speed on the floor If I recall correctly.
