Pcv Valve Question

    Hey Guys,

    The previous owner of my '69 CJ5 Dauntless removed the oil bath air filter and installed a K&N style filter. My question is, dosen't the PCV need vacuum to operate correctly? Should it be connected by a hose to the outlet that is plugged of on the back of the carb instead of the little filter that is on it now? See the little black plug on the back of the carb, pointing toward the PCV valve.

    Or is it OK as it is currently set up? Thank you in advance!

    Yeah, that's wrong. The PCV valve connects to manifold vacuum. That filter is meant to admit filtered air to the crankcase - it does not need a valve. There is a circuit - filtered air in (through the chromed cap on the other valve cover), cranlkcase vapors out through the PCV valve by applied manifold vacuum.

    Yes, it should be connected to the port that is on the back of the carb to function as intended.

    So if I'm understanding correctly, I should run a hose from the PCV valve to the port that is now plugged off on the back of the carb?

    Yes,that is correct.
    Once it is hooked up to the vacuum source it will function as a circuit like Tim described in his post.

    thats the same air cleaner i recently installed on my cj5. the filter that comes in the kit looks like its good quality. k&n makes a filter that fits that cleaner if thats what you prefer. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/knn-e-4595

    My FLAPS had the pcv hose shown by homer preformed. Probably a few $ more than standard hose though.

    Well I tried to replace the air filter with the Mr. Gasket 1490 kit above. The problem is the base of the air cleaner hits the choke linkage on the side of the carb. The riser on the kit is just to short.

    What aftermarket air cleaners are you guys running on your v6's? Any options for risers?

    Here is a photo of the carb. It looks like I am missing the bracket where the air cleaner stud would screw into. It was like this when I got the Jeep. Any ideas what's going on here?

    i used the hose clamp that came with the kit to attach the base to the carb and didnt need to use the air cleaner stud mount that your carb is missing. my choke linkage clears the base by 1/8". if you only need a little clearance you can try flipping the little block that the choke cable attaches to so the set screw faces down.
