Nice looking CJ. I"ve always liked it. Question I just noticed, the rear wheel wells are different than the CJ's made in the US. Squared rather than round. I thought that was found in South American CJ's.

Anyway, I don't know about seat covers. They do make them but I don't think I've ever seen one for a CJ front bench. I"m sure someone will post up if they have seen one.

I've also found it might not be so hard to use the cover you have and make a pattern then recut a new cover. Unless you go with something in a fairly generic standard universal seat cover.

How do you like the 304 in it?

i am currently doing just that, using clear plastic to trace the pattern on the old seats.transfer to new fabric and sew together. its definitely an art more than a science.[IMG]
this is the first thing i have ever sewn so be nice, the bottom is done as well and i have started on the front, adding seat heaters to the front two.

Lowered wheel houses to accommodate the troop seats, if you look carefully it looks like there's inserts in the standard wheel openings.

I think I've seen a pic of one of these on the toledeo assembly line.

Thanks Howard. Makes since and yes, I noticed the wheel inserts. So the military CJ6 had lowered wheel housings in the tub and the civilian CJ6's were like the CJ5? Did not know this.

Wuze, From what I have seen, the "correct" way is to very carefully cut apart the stitching of the old covers and use them as patterns. Do not cut the material - ever. Then you can measure things like seam allowances, see construction methods, etc. I've thought about doing it on some CJ seats just to see if I could do it.

What would not be street legal? Bigger engine? An engine that did not come as an original option? What makes legal or not?

Where I live they don't care what motor is in it. I could stick twin 454's in a jeep if I could make it work and still drive it to the post office.

we have a "typenschein" here its like your title .
the typenschein tell you everything from engine # to tiresize, wheelsize what transmission,
seats, open or closed ......exact everything inklude the color....

when you change something you have to check the car by the goverment if its still safe.
changing the color is ~ 150€ if you do it..... a lot of people dont do this .....
    i know......
its bull***t but brings the gov a lot of money.
also when we have our anual carcheck from the goverment they look for all numbers

get caught with a wrong engine or the wrong tires means a penalty up to 3~4k euros.
in case an of acident we loose our insurance ( we have to have that ) and if someone
get killed you are in prision for years ( that is the biggest problem )

    typenschein
    [IMG]

the importent part, a copy is always in the car in case the police stops you
    [IMG]

you see my jeep is not alowed for open driving, otherwise i would have a picure with no top in my
    typenschein.
i work on that since years but its not easy to get my jeep legal as a convertible because its
    imported as a closed car.....

I had no idea. I can't imagine that kind of control. Not to be political but 150 euros to change a paint color? And you can't take the top off? Sorry, I'm having a hard time comprehending that kind of governmental control over your car. Given this control over a car, I can only wonder about other things.

Heck, I'm just glad I can keep up with my title and registration from year to year. And insurance, while required, is really to protect your in Florida. I was rear ended last January and I have found out when you get hit, you just get screwed in the long run. I'm still dealing with it a year later.

    Sorry about the off topic.
