All my research on MS says it does not come pre programmed, and programming can be time consuming with pretty steep learning curve. There may be MS tuning software now, I haven't looked at their site for a couple of years. There are after market tuning programs available, like Tuner Pro, however they are generally for tuning GM ECM's so I don't know if they will help with MS, anyone know for sure?

The power loss at altitude affects normally aspirated and supercharged/turbo cars, carbed or EFI. The supercharged/turbo'd engines are affected less. EFI will usually correct for altitude (stoichiometric) a little better than a carb, if both are set up correctly.

From what I have read MS has there own software, the programming that concerns me the most is the VE table. What I'm reading says that you need to Dyno the vehicle, unless you have the VE tables from a similar engine that you can copy. I read the manual on one of there more expensive units, it even has the ability to handle the odd fire timing. I think the computer only was like $1200 still with no programming.

The mega squirt unit is around $450 built with about another $200 in wiring and such.
You can buy the kit for half that and do it yourself. I have right now about $325 in mine total with a built mini megasquirt and a rebuilt 4.3 throttle body and junk yard connectors. For programming go to this page:

Innovate LC-2 Digital Wideband Controller with Sensor - 3877

This will do your data logging and help with the programming of the megasquirt, no VE tables needed as this does it for you.
You do not need to dyno it only run it under varied conditions.

No, working on it now, but I have a friend that has set up about 15 of these systems now.
In the Build and fab forum, There are 2 threads, Mine and Brian's. TBI thoughts and Meg squirt info.
I have my Mini megasquirt unit built and my TBI rebuilt, gonna build the manifold TBI adapters next week and my wiring harness in the next several weeks.

I recently had the Howell kit installed on my 70 CJ5 V6. They furnished an adapter to the stock manifold. It was truly plug and play, taking its spark signal off of the existing HEI distributor. It works great.
