I found an inline fuse in the wire that feeds the flasher module that was blown. I think that's my problem there.

However, the loss of brake lights on the passenger rear is a mystery. The bulb is good and the running light works, but no brake light. The wiring is original so it may be quicker to just re-run a new wire than try to find the short.

At least I have one brake light and the engine still runs so it's drivable.

Sounds like an "open" more than a "short."
Shorts tend to cause spitzensparken mit blowenfusen.

I would check and clean the bulb, socket and internal contacts at the tailight, they are often flakey.

Dangit. I left the house this morning without grabbing the little inline glass fuse for the flasher lead. Does anyone know the amperage off hand?

He did blow the flasher power fuse. Maybe it blew because of a short when he moved the turn signal switch to the right turn side? Just throwin out ideas here. :)

Ok, I called it a work day after lunch and came home. With the garage door up and daylight coming in I got under the rear end and found a gigantic cluster of trailer wiring. Basically it was wired so that it could be towed and the tail lights would work, as well as wired to tow a trailer and light it up. Most of the connections consisted of just a small area stripped off the OEM wire and the trailer wire just kind of wrapped/pinched around it and then wrapped with electrical tape.

I ended up just removing all that junk and rewiring the tail lights from the three OEM wires back. I also replaced the fuse to the flasher module and everything works again.

Except for the driver front blinker not working now. The parking lights work all around and the other three corners blink just fine. For now I'm just going to ignore it until I replace the worn out Sparton control unit in the future.

Good job, sometimes you have to just keep looking. Jeeps have the most basic wiring harness there is, the only difficult part is the turn signals, everything is straight forward 12 volt D C wiring.

Some more fiddling with old connectors and the front blinker is back in action.

I now really am seeing the appeal in a body-off rebuild. It's sort of awe inspiring that some of these machines function as well as they do with all the components being fifty years old.
