If it has a tailgate, it would a Renegade I.

    No factory shackle reversal though.

    Pictures would help.

PO was the original nd said it was told to him it was a limited addition what ever that means , He said it had side stripes and it said renegade II, but he could remember wrong .

It has been painted (some kind of very UBER blue custom delux under an oak tree paint job ATM) but under the wind shield when layed down looks like brand new factor orange , and under the hood.

as far as the shackles go probably not factor swap , but nice job who ever did it.It was done along time ago it looks aged like the rest of the frame.

Did any come with radios ?

And so mine would be a 1971 ren I , and if so how many of the 1971 ren I where orange? and do you know what orange paint code was used on sept 1970 jeep corp registered 1971 ren I??

It looks just like huger orange

Could be a Renegade II with the tailgate, Jeep did funny things. Most Renegade IIs had a solid backpanel, not a tailgate, but it could've happened.

The 999 is the paint code for Renegade I/II colours.

Once upon a time I spent several months researching and creating a webpage that detailed these particular packages. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of it any longer and it seems to no longer be part of this webpage. :(

Timgr can probably answer the radio question for sure, but IIRC it was a dealer option, not factory.

There was an under-dash AM radio that was a dealer-installed accessory.

Thought so , thanks. My dash has been mucked up with old school dual knob radio cut out.

Working on pictures my camera is like 20 years old and is a POS , and my phone camera sucks, purple and green donkey balls.

But we are getting a new one for the build , and for the greenhouse build.

    Thanks for the responses .

Any key features to look for ,? on those models ?

Mines been striped of all its adornments .

And how can I tell if the color was coded to that jeep, the PO didnt order the color, It was in the dealer lobby on display as next years model he said.

So, is It a bad idea to change to another REN I color or should i leave it the factory orange ( My wife absolutely hates the color) Me I want to go back stock look with every option it had.

She wants it Olive mist with khaki top, which i like also , but in my gut says, I think it would do it injustice to do anything but back to original .

But she is boss , But i think I got her eased up about the color.

She loves it, but is afraid of it LOL, when i brought home , I have a very very mild incline on my property , and tested the four wheel drive , I thought she was going to jump out, LOL I was like what its a little incey wincey little hill, My my motto is ,"It aint no hill for no climber " LOL. But she is a candy ***.

So stock camping trails for US when she Tags along LOL.

The color code is the only indicator, without sanding down to the first color coat. Trim tag just says it was a Renegade color - 999 is a Ren color. According to the DItzler color sheet, you had Plum Poly, Riverside Orange, Sierra Blue (all 999) and Spring Green (433). Color codes are here - http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1971-jeep-pg01.jpg

You don't have to restore it as a Renegade, thought it will definitely be worth more money in its original color and stripes.

Prior to 1974, the Renegades only got Renegade colors. But Jeep was very easy about special orders, so there could be exceptions.

    No connection with location, AFAIK.

Now that I really looked and the shackle has not been reversed should i leave it stock or switch it?

And is that a mod . that is frowned upon?

IMO if you don't have a strong opinion formed by experience and research, you should leave it alone. It'll be fine the way it is, ie not reversed.

Well I'm going to throw a new one at you. I've got a 1970 Renegade I, that I bought in 1987 from the original owner. It has the 225 buick v6,4:88 gears,Warn Overdrive, spare tire rack, ramsey 8000 pd. pto winch, pin stripped seats, low back in front and matching rear seat. All the factory gauges, gas tank under the seat, tail gate, Renegade I strip, black, steps under the doors, black. And it is I think its call Sierra Blue factory paint. I've seen other Renegade I with this same color also. My vin number is 8305017 354779. It seems like most of the other 1970 Renegades vin numbers I've seen are alot later then this? I don't know if this helps anyone at all. Let me know what you guys figure out, please?
