I just installed this fan / clutch combo. It fit perfectly. I have a '66 CJ5 with a Dauntless. My issue is that it doesn't cool at all. I took it for a test drive and when I idled it in the driveway the temp spiked to 230 deg, and it's only 75 degrees outside. With the old fan it never got higher than 200, maybe 210. I didn't have a fan shroud on, but again the old fan didn't overheat even without the shroud. I went with a brand new clutch so I assume it's working. I'm at a loss for why it doesn't work. Here's a picture of the old fan & new one. Also, a picture of the installed fan. Lastly, my next experiment. The BFF. A 20 inch GM fan. BTW, I'm trying to get better cooling because I'm in Tucson. The old fan was marginal on 85 degree days. I'm trying to make sure I'm good on 110 degree days. Plus I'm putting in A/C so I need all the cooling I can get. Lastly, it does stay at 190 when driving at highway speeds. So I think my radiator is sufficient.

No clue, I don't even have a shroud on mine, and even in stop and go seattle traffic, it never breaks 200, on a 195 degree thermostat. I can let it sit there and idle basically all day, and no issues.

@KBH: how's your radiator condition? I took mine to the local shop for the dunk and fix... (or what ever they do to boil it).

What temp thermostat do you have? I recall there being some choices, I think I put a 185 in mine and with the stock fan here in my area, when it was about 95 outside it'd idle fine.

Sounds like a trip to the radiator shop is next. I have a 180 degree thermostat installed. The rad core seems to be clean inside but there are a lot of broken cooling fins. I'll also heat the clutch with a heat gun to ensure that it's engaging when hot. I think I'll also try the BFF just to see what it does, and what it sounds like.

    Thanks for the input.

Update: I installed the BFF (20" GM fan, no clutch) and WOW!!! That baby moves some air. The temp stays right at 180 degrees all the time. It is a little loud and I feel that it's taking some power away, but it for sure stays cool!

I also tested the fan clutch. I put a heat gun on the coil. The coil does contract and rotate the shaft as it should. However, I could feel no difference in the force it takes to rotate the fan. I thought when it got hot that it would not spin on the hub at all. Maybe my brand new clutch is bad...

For now I'll run the BFF.

As I understand it, this fan clutch, being of a non "heavy duty" design never fully locks up. It runs at something like 30% of the water pump speed while the heat clutch is disengaged, and at something like 80% of the water pump speed when engaged.
