I am not sure which Holley Carburetor to use with my Offenhauser manifold. I would like to keep a manual choke and keep my throttle cable if possible.

    Thanks,

    RJS

I run a Holley 4160 (p/n 0-8007) on my Offy Dual Port. I know a lot of guys like the Truck Avenger version of the 4160 too.

The 0-8007 comes with electric choke as do most. Holley does offer a manual conversion kit.

x2 on the 8007. They are just about perfect for every day driving. Most of the truck avenger parts can be added to make them a pretty good off road carb also. I have run several of these on different Jeeps over time.

I have the 8007/ 390 cfm Holley on mine, and it'a fantastic. It's had spring loaded needles installed, as well as the quick change secondary module...It took some tuning, but any carb. will.

On my old '67, I ran an Edelbrock 500cfm on the Offy manifold. It ran good, but I honestly think you can not get optimum fuel velocity with Venturi's that big on a 225

I've got the 470 Truck Avenger on mine. And it works great.

Great suggestions guys, my driving habits will be 80% on road, 20% off road. Don't know much about the Truck Avenger Carb. Does it have a manual choke, easy to install and adjust, how is the performance, reliability and mileage, how does it stack up with the Holley?

It is a holley. It just comes from the factory with the annular boosters, spring loaded needles, and a few other things that make it a more suitable for off-road use. They come stock with an electric choke, but that's just matter of buying the little kit and swapping out the electric coil and housing for the manual one. Mileage wise? I actually haven't checked the numbers, and most of my driving has been around town, but I'd figure I'm getting around 12-14 running around town, on a basically stock 225 with unknown miles, and a T14 with 3.73 gears. The 8007 the other guys are suggesting is a great carburetor as well, they just don't have the "off-road" bits in them stock, you've got to add them.

Great! It makes sense to me to go with the Truck Avenger Carb since it seem to have more features than the regular Holley. Where can I find a good deal on a new one. An automotive chain store or speciality shop?

I got mine from summit racing. But you can pretty much get them from anybody that carries Holley Products. I want to say I gave about $400 for mine, but that was three years ago, looks like Summit is getting almost $500 for them now.

Inflation...got to love it. Carburetor is almost twice the cost of the manifold.

There is (or was) a manual choke Holley 390 carb, part # 0-6299.
I don't think they've been produced for a long time. But as mentioned above, it's easy to change one over to manual choke...it's also easy to run a 12v wire and have an electric choke. ;)

I mostly run the 252 Comp grind - and that is what I have in the '49 with the Offy right now. Worked fine when I ran 390s and TA470s and still works fine with the FI I run on them.

Good to know... I was debating between the 252 and 260. I heard some people say that the 260 seemed to liven up the top end a bit and did not seem to really affect the low end...

Gives it a bit more top end, but I do feel the bottom can suffer a bit with it. If you only driving the pavement - I don't see using the 260 as a bad idea - if you wheel, I lean toward the 252 a bit more. Neither are a 'bad' option - does not help, but there it is :D

I HATE my Holly 390. It's never run correctly and has been a PITA for many years.
