Smart! never thought of that - you end up not having to pull the steering wheel off.

Separating the steering wheel was a chore for me. I tried using several different pullers and ended up breaking the steering wheel in the process -- fortunately, I had planned on replacing it anyway but if you plan on keeping yours, good luck.

No go for me with pullers either, I ended up using a dead blow hammer and working my way around from below while pulling up on the opposing side. Wheel stayed intact though.

I used a bearing separator, which was ultimately successful but it broke the plastic around the wheel hub.

When I stripped my 2A down it took about three hours to disconnect everything. Used an engine hoist to do the heavy lifting and got it off with only a small struggle. Did not remove the steering column until after I had the tub off. Removing the steering wheel intact was the toughest part of the whole job.

You are right - makes everything easier.
