stock or lifted

my Boys want me to lift my cj6.....
you know i like it stock......but would do it with the option to build it back stock......

so....the question is .......31", 33" or 35"

2.5 bds lift and 33

 

You won't get 35s under the body unless you raise it way up so that the wheel arch does not matter, or you cut the rear arches and use tubing fenders.

I'm using Mike's longer shackles, so it's a little higher than it would be with factory shackles.

 

Be wary of the slippery slope...

I'm happy with my CJ5, 31's with no lift. I've been down that slippery slope that tymbom mentioned on my Cherokee. First it was a budget boost, then a full 2" suspension lift, and then a 3.5" lift. Wallet took a huge hit to do it correctly, adjusting for all the issues that come with larger lifts. Your CJ-6 is going to be a bit more forgiving on issues like drive line angles since you have a longer wheelbase. If it was me, I'd throw on a nice set of 31" all terrains and call it good. It is your Jeep though, do what makes you happy.

I would keep it that way, going with bigger and larger tire will Have a bad effect on handling.

Also consider that with big tire you will need better brake, also a power steering if you don't have. If you dont change the gear ratio you will loose power.

How old are the boys? Maybe they need a project...

 

but didn't you say . vehicle has some sort of inspection in your country . maybe someone else
I vote no larger than 33 on 8-10 rims . power steering would be a plus

 

Gerald, I am glad you started this. I haven't decided which way to go on my 6 either. I really like your skinny 33's. Problem is I like both of Timgrs setups too. If Timgr reads this, what size were the tires in your first picture?

 

I like it the way it is...............It's doubtful that you could get a much bigger tire in there that would not hit the chassis or springs inside at full turn L/R without a wheel change or spacers. If it has a D-30 up front that would help.

Bigger tire equals more rolling resistance , burns more fuel and harder to stop. Gear ratio may not be too effected because of the height difference between the two sizes , but the extra weight may make your motor feel sluggish.

I like it set up with the 33's. Maybe just another inch of lift........maybe.......but no more. I will be swapping my 33 x 9.50s for 33 x 10.50s when the time comes. They fill the wheel well a bit more and still don't require flares.

I like Tim's with either tire set up he shows.

Any basic modification you make, short of cutting the body, can readily be reversed. But, if the young man wants something really built, I would look for another project rather than over doing your nice -6. Just my .02.

more lift , more problems , you just can't change one thing

 

Remember that you travel with your Jeep, with cargo on the roof. gravity center will be higher, there is a (bigger) risk of rolling...
Ad you have to change shock absorbers, or other parts...
better to buy one just for the children, add a good roll bar and play in the mountain ; it is an investment!

I would have to agree, your's with the troop seats and hard top is too nice to careen off trees and rocks. Buy the kids another and have them help build it to what they want. They will appreciate it more and may even take care of it, especially if they invest their money into it!
