    Yup. Nearly all Jeeps with the side carrier have them or had them.

    Somewhere around '64/'65, maybe as late as'66, there was still a small rectangular block of oak wood to support the side-mounted spare tire.

    Looks a lot like the throttle foot rest in M38A1.
    Maybe Jeep repurposed the same part, when they found a surplus warehouse full of them? :D
