I have several 2A and 3A ribs, along with an M38, none of which are in great shape. I have the opportunity to procure a 3B tub locally that is in comparitively awesome shape... my question is, is everything the same on a 3B tub, besides the cowl area? To the naked eye it seems like there's just a small panel to raise the same 2A/3A cowl up about 3" to become a 3B, along with a taller firewall. Kaiser Willys lists side panels for all civilian flat fenders under the same part number... Would it be a good move to use this tub for my build? I will be cutting, stretching, and adding metal, but I definitely prefer the looks of the 2A/3A.

    Thanks in advance!

no, they are not the same. I was reading about this a couple weeks ago. If you're scabbing together something it might not matter all that much though.

There may be a few minor differences but my guess is a 3B tub will bolt directly to a 3A frame. I made my 3B glass tub from a 2A/3A glass tub by adding in those cowl extensions and remodeling the firewall-along with several other modifications that had nothing to do with the original fitment. And while I too liked the looks of the low hood better, 40 something years later I would do the same thing again. That extra 4.5" under the hood is very useful for a whole heap of other things in no way related to the clearance for an F head carb.

Thanks, guys. I think I'm going to probably pull the trigger on this... it also has a bunch of extra goodies to sweeten the deal... like an extra soft top and doors! I'll let you know what I find out.

Back when I worked in the Jeep shop, they turned a 3A into a 3B so there was more room under the hood for the ford V8.

I measured some parts on the rear tub, and they're identical to the 2A. It seriously looks like the cowl bracing is taller to support the cowl extension panels, and those panels look like you could remove them and section the cowl to 2A height... I would've figured I could've found somebody that did this before, considering they made those 3B tubs for so long (in stainless steel, even). I'll keep you guys posted.
