I can't tell in the picture but on some brake drums there is 3 screws (can't remember if they are phillips or standard) holding the drum on, try a wire brush in between the wheel studs and see if you can find them. If they are on there don't even try to use a screwdriver, you will need what they call an impact driver(not an impact gun). It looks like a super heavy duty screwdriver that you hit the end of it with a hammer and when you hit it it turns about a quarter turn which will almost always break the srew loose. if not it will break the head of it off at least.

Is there any way to remove just the drum and not the hub? I have a heavy duty oem puller that will pull it all off but I don't know how to press it back on. Has anyone tried hammering out the studs and replacing then replacing the drum and studs?

No pressing involved. The nut will draw it on. Just put the key and hub back, and tighten the axle end nut to torque spec.

Don't take the hub and drum apart unless the drum is junk. You won't know that until you measure the drum ID and see that it is not turnable (ie will be greater the 0.060" oversize after turning). The drum and hub can be chucked in the drum lathe together, to turn the drums. SOP.

I think maybe Jamco6000 is asking if the drum can be pressed back onto the studs if he pullls it off the hub?

Some jeeps, the drums are loose and can be removed from the hub without issues, just three screws to remove. Others, the studs are swaged to act as rivets holding the drum and hub together as one permanent unit, such as timgr refers to.

In the second case it is technically possible to remove or replace studs individually, and/or in theory the drum could be 'unswaged' to convert to the free type. But it would involve machine-shop type techniques.

based on the years you said of those jeeps. those shouldn't be pressed together hug and drums with studs holding them together.

even my 56 cj5 and my 59 cj5 which are both older than yours the drums are easily removed by unscrewing 3 small screws that hold the drum onto the hub. the screws should be about halfway between studs and they are in kinda a Y shape orientation from each other. I think they were 1/4 inch with a large flat head on them. I think I can see the small screws in your photo but with the rust its hard to tell for sure. in post #1 it looks like that's one of the screws in about the 9 o clock position
