When starting the engine there is a puff of blue smoke, is that the quiet before the storm? Doesn't last long. Am I looking at major engine work I'm the near future?

    Thanks

IIRC blue smoke at startup that goes away is loose (worn) valve guides. Not terrible. Check the compression, wet and dry.

I agree with timgr. When you shut off the engine oil drains down the valve guides into the cylinder. They make valve guide seals depending on your engine and if I recall you can put them in without removing the head.

    STEM seals. Not steam.

Mine puff blue smoke when it get really hot - I noticed it when I did my last tune up - I let it idle a lot more than usual... on normal driving its OK (as far I as know) - Am I looking at the same issue (compression is good 120, 130, 125, 125), bad stem seal?

Thanks for the response. It's not too to bad, if there's even a thing, but something to keep an eye on.
