I found this in the back of my shop in the scrap yard connected to a transmission.

I'm probably going to be sticking my foot in my mouth here but it appears to be a side shift T90 with an overdrive so it probably came out of a 2WD wagon or pickup. I'm sure there are a few members here that can give you more information.

Would that possibly be a Jeepster item too?

Could be. Going from memory I believe they used the T-89 but it's been a long time so I could be mistaken. I don't think it's a side shift T-90 as those typically used 6 bolts to hold the cover in place. Studebakers used them as well as lots of other manufacturers back in the day.

Edit: The Jeepsters used the T-96 so I was wrong on that.

The top cover was something that I had questions about too.

Is the overdrive adaptable to a d18? I would however like to keep my PTO winch setup.

    Difficult.

These overdrives attach to the output end of a 2WD transmission typically. They were adapted to 4WD vehicles by Rancho ("the Rancho Overdrive") but I believe you just don't have enough room for one in a CJ-5. Here's Herm's page about it: http://hermtheoverdriveguy.com/?page_id=889

Contact Herm and see if he wants it, can give you some credit on a Warn/Saturn overdrive, or something.

As Tim mentioned, those were once available for the D18 tcase but it's so long that you'd have no rear driveshaft on a short wheelbase Jeep, plus it only works in 2WD.
Herm sells the adapter to use a PTO with a Warn OD....my dads jeep is set up like that and it works great.

I agree with some earlier posts that this trans assy is likely out of a late 40's/early 50's Jeepster. The side shift from three spd column shift and 4 bolt cover help to convince me. Many of the 50's Studebakers and similar usually had a 6 bolt top cover.
I have not seen this variation with the two recessed plugs in the top of the O/D housing though. I think I still have a T90/D18/Borg Warner up in deep storage. I got it out of a Willys Wagon and it was too long to fit my CJ5. I remember this combination sure had a lot of weight too!

I'm not even sure the boss knows it's laying out there, let alone what it came from. The other guy I work with who has been around for 10 years said it might have come out of a Willys Aero or something. He wasn't too sure either.
