Gentlemen, when a person in the back seat of my '98 TJ wants to get out, they are supposed to be able to lift the little lever that allows the back of the front seat to go forward and when that happens the seat itself goes forward and up at the end of travel. It stopped working like that a couple weeks ago.
    1) The little lever on the back of the seat still works.
    2) The bar in front of the seat still works, allowing the seat to go forward.
    3) The thumb lever under the front of the seat works(next to the runner), allowing the seat to travel forward and up.
But all that should be able to be triggered by the little lever on the back of the seat.
I used a VERY bright light with a mirror, (I'm a big guy) and can't see where anything is disconnected or broke.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks. Hunter

There are 2 cables that control the action to make the seat fold and tumble. Need to see if they are still attached to the brackets, might have to remove seat to have easier access to check them

Thanks for the info Steve. Taking out a seat will have to wait until next weekend though.
    Thanks. Jim

I know 3 or 4 people with the same problem. I have told them to come over so we can compare with mine that works but no one has ever showed up. I suspect a cable issue.

I had that happen on my 97 TJ, one of the cables fell out. IIRC it has a bent end that just goes through a hole and if the cable gets slack it can fall out. Much easier to work on with the seat out.

I've also heard of the cable breaking. Hopefully yours has just fallen out.
With the seat out, it's a good time to clean and lube all moving seat parts.
