Working on front shock mounts. Thanks, Steve, for helping me figure it out.

Contemplating Line-x for the interior. I have to do something; the roll-on liner I did 5 years ago is cracked and starting to come off in chunks. I wanted to do body color paint, but I don't know that my floors would ever look good enough for paint. I think all the imperfections would show. But it's too hot to pull the cage and seats right now, so it sits as-is.

Broke my clutch rod on the master. I'm running a stock XJ unit that has a plastic piece on the end that captures the bolt that passes through the pedal. I could've replaced the master, but figured I'd just run into the same problem down the road. Decided instead to modify the OEM MC to be stronger than factory.

Here's the pieces as they came out of the HEEP:

Cut the plastic pieces off, ground the retainer off the end of the rod, then cut some 5/16" - 24 threads:

Threaded a spherical ball joint on with blue Loctite and a jam nut. Hopefully never have to mess with it again:

Got it put back in tonight. It works like a champ. Something to consider if you are ever doing a hydraulic clutch conversion. One less weakness for Rubicon '13.

It's funny how learning to paint a vehicle has changed the way I wheel. Paying someone to paint is prohibitively expensive for me, especially for a toy like a JEEP, so I would never have even tried a majority of the trails and obstacles I've done knowing every tree branch was going to cut me deep in the wallet. Five years post-restomod she still shines up nice with a buffing wheel, but is starting to develop that well-worn look. I like it because it tells a story. I know in my mind that no matter what I do to it on the trail, I can make it better than new in my garage. Learning basic body work has set me free, not sure how else to describe it.

Been trail riding the JEEP pretty hard lately trying to wring the weakness out prior to Rubicon '13. A couple weekends ago I pretzeled up my tie rods. I had to use a bottle jack to straighten them enough to get me home. I have actually been driving them around like that just fine until 2 days ago when I started getting the DW really bad. I snapped a pic of one of them below (that was after bottle jack straightening). When I put the new tie rods in and went to check alignment, my front end had gone from 1/8" toe-in to almost 1" toe-in! I replaced with thicker OEM style off a V8 ZJ. If they bend again, I'm building some out of DOM and heim joints.

A little bit of carnage. First, the rock garden bit the driver's side rocker pretty hard:

Then the 2nd day in the rock garden I came off a ledge too hard and vertical and slammed almost the entire weight of the JEEP onto the front end, which sheared off the pass side centering pin. It was a blessing in disguise as it revealed that the PO had installed the incorrect pins. They were probably the only bolts left on the vehicle that haven't been touched. When I did the resto, I left the leaf packs as complete units and just replaced the eye bushings. The pins that were in there were only 1/4". I'm surprised it took this long to shear them.

Determined not to sit out, this is what I came up with to do the repair. Drove up to tree stump, used a hi-lift to jack the JEEP up, then put it in gear and rocked the JEEP forward until it fell off the jack and onto the stump. I installed the proper 3/8" pin and was back on the trail. Almost wishing I had gone ahead and done the driver's side while I was at it.

You keep Coors Light in your tool box too?? ;);)

Time for some rocker guards, they've saved mine!

Went down to Green Acres ORV in Clayton, OK. Had a great weekend camping at Clayton Lake State Park, Jeeping, shooting at Pushmataha WMA, biking, hiking, and generally just relaxing around the campfire with a cell phone signal gratefully absent. Unfortunately, didn't get too many pics.

The park itself is not for the faint of heart. The place has some ROCK. I flopped my JEEP, not a lot of carnage, just an abrasion on the cowl, buy enough to pucker me up pretty good.

I think I'm going to shine her up again. I've got about a quart of base coat left on the shelf, figure I need about 3 qts total. Been banging on it while I work out. Lift a set, bang on the HEEP for a couple minutes, lift a set, put some clamps in place, lift a set, bang on it some more, etc.

I feel bad for asking... I read the thread and couldn't find what suspension your running. I like the flex that your jeep has. Also that 300 buick looks awesome in there. It has the older style valve covers kinda giving it the look that it could have been from the factory.

It's a Frakenjeep. The springs are later CJ (2" up front, 2-1/2" rear) aftermarket 3" or 4" with new hangers welded on. Frame is the bumpstop. I also reversed the front shackles, which I somewhat regret. Tom Woods front driveshaft to compensate.

Also how much room did you have near the radiator? I am in the early stages of a Buick v8 swap in my cj and I like the idea of using a later grill as opposed to cutting my old one. I looked at your photos six ways to Sunday and it looks as though you have a good amount of room in there.

    Thanks in advance

There is enough room to mount a 7 blade fan directly onto the water pump pulley, but not enough for a clutch fan.

She went on to start a new chapter today without me. I bought this JEEP as a newly divorced single dad, and it saved my life. All the nights laying under her wrenching have me an outlet and kept me from doing something stupid. I'm hoping the same for her new owner:
