V6 Bracket/Power Steering Pump Combos?

    I spent quite a bit of time combing through the many power steering threads, but can't find info specific to my question. I'm installing power steering on my '70 CJ-5 Dauntless V6 project, and the only thing left is which power steering pump to install. I picked up a mounting bracket on eBay (see the linked picture) and it bolted right up to the V6, but I don't know which donor vehicle PS pump will bolt up to it. Anyone happen to have that info? Thanks in advance.

    Do you have the rest of the bracket? That is 1/3 of the 68-72 Skylark bracket, but the worst part is that PS pulley... $120 something from Original parts group...

    As mentioned above that is just part of the high mount PS Bracket...........used normally when you have a stock Left Side front dump manifold..........I really prefer the lower mount that works with headers like you already have. Need the correct crank pulley to make either one work.................The pump in the picture is the standard old Saginaw / GM "Ham Can" variety on GM products from the mid 60's right through the 80's

    It is always best to buy the bracket, pump, and pulleys from the same donor.

    Thanks, everyone for the responses and pics - extremely helpful. Looks like I'll ditch the (partial) high-mount bracket. I like the low profile bracket much better anyway. Although first I need to take some measurements - I'm using Herm Tilford's Ford Reverse Rotation PS conversion. With the pillow-block, I think I'll have plenty of room to route the steering shaft, but measure twice cut once. ;-)

    you might be able to find/make the brackets and grab another pump, or you can recoup your cost and try and sell it. I don't know how often the aluminium on the power steering bracket breaks, or if the rest of the pump comes up. I found the one in the picture by accident.

    I don't know this for a fact, but it looks to me like the low style bracket wouldn't work with the Ford PS box. Seems like the pump and box would be in the same place...

    Doug,

    After doing some measuring, it appears that the low style bracket would fit, but there would be zero clearance and it wouldn't allow for any engine movement. So I found the high style brackets and am going that route. Thanks for the input.

    THe high style bracket works great, esp with forward dump exhaust.

    I got very lucky and snagged the pump and brackets together on eBay... lucky because the pump pulleys seem really hard to come by, and when you find 'em they're apparently made of gold. :shock: (You called that one, piffey!) My crank pulley is already a double, so it will accommodate the power steering belt.

    When I was searching posts I found a reference to several threads with discussions about Herm's Ford conversion vs. the standard Saginaw approach and I couldn't resist. Kinda' felt like I'd stumbled into a Ford vs. Chevy or polymer vs. metal discussion. LOL My conclusion: both can be set up very successfully, both have their packaging challenges, and both require a fair amount of planning and adjusting. Sounds like, I don't know... EVERYTHING involved in an early Jeep project! I have to say, as a guy whose prior Jeep building experience is from the 80's on up (heavy on YJ/TJ/XJ/WJ), this forum is without a doubt the BEST resource on the web. Y'all rock! :stout:

    Did you get the high mount pump bracket (aluminum style) or the low mount style?
