    Hi everyone,

I've recently finished rebuilding an odd fire V6 and have some unused parts left over and I'm considering trying to sell them. Some of the parts I have are:

Std bore block that will need to be cleaned and bored over size.
A crankshaft that has standard size journals, but will need to be ground undersize due to being slightly out of round.
Four heads, all needing to be cleaned and reworked. Two of them were rejected during my rebuild because of rust in the valve seat area, and the other two are untouched, but rusty and I have no idea what kind of shape they're in. More than likely they would all need to have new valve seats installed.
An oil pan needing to be restored.
A timing chain cover, needing to be restored.
Quite a few rocker arms and shafts with some wear.
A fuel pump cam and distributor/oil pump drive gear, both in nice condition.
Six connection rods attached to standard size pistons.
    Oil pick up tube.
    A windage tray.

and a few other small parts. I'm reasonably new to Jeeps and have no clue what, if anything these parts are worth. I don't want to advertise them asking way too much, but I also don't want to short change myself by giving them away. So, I'm asking you all, before I list them, what do you think they are worth? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Jeep parts are your insurance. Some of that stuff isn't too hard to come by, but if you have room keep it. Your not going to make a lot of bucks by selling it. However in the future if you need something you might pay a premium to get it. I went through two engines in a short time frame due to unforeseen age issues of the block I had. I was lucky I had a spare sitting in the shed. Just my .02

Thanks for the reply Joe. I did consider keeping them for the "just in case" scenario, but the rebuild cost more than I would have liked and thought, if I were to sell some of the leftover parts, that would help offset the rebuild cost and maybe help someone else out that was looking for parts. I haven't had much response to my posting (you, so far) so, maybe the parts just aren't in that much demand. I may go ahead and list them in the Classified section and see if I get any interest. Worse come to worse, I'll have some spare parts laying around in my loft.

    Brad,
A crankshaft that will clean up with a .010/.010 cut is definitely worth something, they are getting to be scarce. A good set of rods to go with them is a plus.
The timing chain cover is another piece that isn't easy to find. What do you mean by 'needs restored'? If the integral oil pump body is worn badly oversize the cover isn't very useful.
If you have an oil dipstick and tube I would buy that from you, lots of guys have tried to find those.
I would suggest sending a PM to Nickmil or Oldtime and ask them for suggested fair pricing.

    Don

    O.K. I'll make some suggestions...
These are just some random numbers that I found floating around in thin air.
I found other numbers but did not list them all....
If serviceable condition is questionable or unknown, the prices should be less.
I strongly suggest you modify asking prices if buyer request for less.

Std bore block that will need to be cleaned and bored over size. $25 to $50 max if nice
A crankshaft that has standard size journals, but will need to be ground undersize due to being slightly out of round. $50 to $75 max if VGC
Four heads, all needing to be cleaned and reworked. Two of them were rejected during my rebuild because of rust in the valve seat area, and the other two are untouched, but rusty and I have no idea what kind of shape they're in. More than likely they would all need to have new valve seats installed. another $50 per set if rebuildable
An oil pan needing to be restored. $25 if not damaged
A timing chain cover, needing to be restored.$25 if no corrosion
Quite a few rocker arms and shafts with some wear. good used rocker shafts $25 pair and good used rockers @20 for set of 6 (note the rockers are bad if shaft was bad)
A fuel pump cam and distributor/oil pump drive gear, both in nice condition. $20 for both
Six connection rods attached to standard size pistons. $25 for all 6
Oil pick up tube. $20 with dipstick
A windage tray. Hmmm Your turn....

Thanks for the advice guys. I was, of course, hoping these parts would be worth a little more, but at the same time, I'm not surprised. I'll do some thinking and decide whether I want to keep them as spares, or put them up for sale. The oil pick up tube isn't a dipstick tube, it's the siphon tube that draws oil from the pan and feeds the oil pump and the windage tray is the tin pan that mounts below the crankshaft to help reduce oil frothing by sloshing up into the spinning crankshaft (at least that's what I've always heard it was for).
