Anyone know why on the rear side marker lights, the driver side is indented and the passenger side is not.

Why is that?I am just wondering.

I think Tim talked about this a year back. The origanal spare tire carrier had the marker light on the carrier.
Jeep didn't change the tooling for the fender until later.

IIRC the origional marker light from the side mount tire carrier is a prized piece, save it if you have one.

Only Jeeps equipped with the solid back panel have the indent on the passenger side. The solid back panel was a regular option from '73 on, and prior to that was part of the '72 Renegade package and the Ren II (?) - IIRC the Ren I has a tailgate, so it should not have the indent.

Jeeps with a tailgate and the side mounted spare have the light in the middle of the spare tire carrier.

Does anyone have a pic of the tire carrier light? I've never seen one, now I'm curious.

I have only seen reflectors in that position. But that is probably because I really haven't been looking for side marker lights.

Last time this came up, there was one on eBay ... if you search, the picture may still be online somewhere. I took a quick look and did not find it.

It's a flat circular red reflector lens with a plastic twist-socket protruding from the back, like the rectangular lights. There are two small screws that go through the plastic to match the holes in the tire mount.

CJ-5 1973 in Oklahoma ready for a trip to New Mexico. Came from the factory with a marker light on the tire carrier. Homemade gas can rack.

Yes it had a tail gate. Ordered it with a trac loc rear end, gauges, soft top, 2/3-1/3 front seat and a 304 V8. It came with L78X15 poliglass suburbanite Goodyear tires. We did not order a back seat.
Traded in our 1956 CJ-5. As ordered it was $4382.65 delivered in Oklahoma City.

The front fenders look like 72-75 year?

71 and earlier have stubby fenders.Yours are 3 inches longer.

You buy it in late 71? or early 72? I guess I should say, was it made late 71 or early 72?

Rode home in it from the dealer. It was my Grandmother's. It is the black jeep in my avatar. There used to be a build article but I no longer know where it is.
