Anybody used the Omix-Ada wiring harness? They sell two, one is about $500 and the other is a lot more ($800). Looks like the more expensive one is already bundled and taped, with more connectors.

I have a 25% off coupon at Advance that would work real nice on the $500 harness, and is the last major item I need for my '79 CJ-5 frame-off.

Any feedback on this one, or the Painless one, is appreciated. The Painless harness looks a little nicer for the same money ($500), appears to have more connectors and is bundled and taped like the more expensive Omix one.

    Here's the Omix harness:

    Thanks,

Most here recommend EZ Wire. Search and you'll find lots of discussion.

You may as well get the Omix harness directly from Centech, if you want that harness. http://www.centechwire.com/Jeep_c16.htm

Also it's laughable that this harness is a direct replacement '55-86. I'd guess it's a Centech universal harness that they threw in an Omix bag and marked it up as a Jeep part. I avoid Omix stuff if I can.

I wouldn't use it if someone gave it to me.

If you want a stock harness, I think Walks sells some.

I'd recommend aftermarket, like EZ Wire or Painless (No experience with either).

Little easier to work with and add accessories too.

No experience with Omix harness, but I echo Tim's comments. I did use the EZ Wire harness and it was pretty darn good.

I would go Painless or E Z Wire. I also try to avoid Omix whenever I can.

If you don't need a harness with factory terminators you may want to check out Reble Wire (http://rebelwire.com/) I used there 9+3 harness and was very happy. The quality of wire was very good, all labeled every couple inches. And the tech support is outstanding, they will pick up the phone on the weekend if ther are in the shop or call you back in an hour or so. The harnesses are also made in the USA, and I like the idea of supporting small business.

You will need to make all your oun terminations, but tthat's as simple as picking up a couple boxes of electrical terminator connectors.

I have to agree with this post of Tim's. Centech knows the difference between jeep early and later models and there is a difference as to there wiring set-up. Goes to show you that OMIX doesn't care or value their customers.

ANYTHING with OMIX on the label is best just left on the shelf. I would build my own harness if their's was the only one I could find.

No doubt one could redesign a later harness to work on an early Jeep but that would only be slightly easier than starting from scratch. If you do need terminals, the Delphi Weather or Metri Pack ends work really well. I buy them from Waytek Wire.

Omix doesn't make anything that I'm aware of. They take other's parts (usually non-USA made) and put their label on; they buy low, sell high. Some items I've bought with the Omix label were actually made in the USA, parts such as reverse idler shaft and countershaft for my T15. I believe the reverse idler gear was also made in USA. They're not all bad IMO.
