I can tell you that a TF999 automatic fits perfectly behind an AMC V8 in an intermediate CJ6. I used a Dana 300 instead of the D20 but used the stock crossmember with a YJ tranny mount. I had to drill one extra hole in each framerail to move the cross member back (the front crossmember hole lined up perfect with the rear frame hole) and one hole int he corssmember for the YJ torque stud. Since that CJ6 is listed as a 1950 I would think the frame would be a lot different. It would have the old ross steering and through the floor pedals so the firewall would have to be modified. If the tub was in good shape you could extend your CJ5 frame the 20" and drop the CJ6 tub in its place. If the 20" tub extension portion is in good shape you could just graft that into your CJ5 tub, extend your frame and avoid all the early CJ differences.

Your 74 is what a 104" inch WB as compared to the early version at 101"??? Lots of ways for Johneyboy to either make it a 101" or 104" Wheel base............all the parts interchange!

I just want to use the body of the cj6 with the fender/hood/grill/windsheild from my cj5 1975.

    Frame, crossmember are aftermarket.

It's a five year project, for the moment my cj5 ride nice, i like to take the body appart, do a complete rotisserie.

And when i get tired of off-roading (espacialy the time in the garage repairing the trail damage) i'll start the swap. It will be a complete coil spring set-up with an automatic transmission. There'is option to me about engine, i'll like to go with a 350 injection/th350/np205 combo. I want to keep the old body style but i want all modern mechanical.

do it !!!! you will like it .

Suppose to, tub are the same from 1955 to 1975, in 1972 they just put longer fender and hood.

but I now have a question , wouldn't the front crossmember be forward acouple of inches on a intermediate than on a early
on my swap I went early 5 to early 6.
the nose on an intermediate is longer so is that crossmember ALSO forward.

He is asking $500? And it is not home yet? And of course you can get it to work. I'm setting a CJ6 tub on a CJ8 frame.....

Yeah, i should do it, but project doesn't get the agreement of my Gf. Since the last year i worker about 600 hours on the jeep.

Also i'm 26 and i want to buy a house as soon as i'm able too so i have to restrain the budget on the jeep...

Not just the crossmember. The wheelbase on the '6 went from 101" to 104" in '72 just like the '5 went from 81" to 84" in the same year.

Not the same crossmember, but for now my cj5 is running on a custom build frame so i don't bother with the frame.
