I hope i posted this in the right section. Could the steering linkage of a Dana 30 be used on a Dana 27? I have a Dana 30 laying around and would like to put the steering link system that it has on my Dana 27 if its possible. The Dana 30 is a narrow base dana30. I was going to use the Dana 30 but came opon a really good deal on a Dana 27 that I couldn't pass up.

Nice! Would the long rod that goes from the pasanger side to the driver side fit off of a Dana 30?

    Nightstr,
You will need to shorten it a little bit.
Get a measurement, then you can bring it over to my garage and we will put in on the lathe and cut it down and rethread the end.

    That should work.
    I have both... a D30 and a D27 1 piece tie rod.
If I remember I'll measure them both for OAL.

That would be great! Should I measure from middle of nut to middle of nut?

What we need is OAL of the tie rod itself. Do you have an existing D27 one piece tie rod now? Then you just need to duplicate that length.
The nut you refer to, is that the nut for the TRE on your steering knuckle? That should work, just have to subtract part of the length of the TRE.

No, I don't have an existing one pice. I can pull the jeep over and get the measurements a bit more exact of off it if that works?

    D30 long tie rod = 40-1/2"
D25 / D27 1 piece long tie rod = 35-1/4" if using a single hole knuckle and the double tie rod end
D25 / D27 1 piece long tie rod = 38-1/4" if using a double hole knuckle and single tie rod ends

If you have a dana 30 and can use it, install it over the dana 27, it will be one of the best mods you ever do. Easier to install disk brakes if it doesn't already have them, larger drum brakes, stronger axle tubes, slightly wider stance, sharper turning radius, more parts availability and no more leaks on the drive way.

This was what I wanted to do but I got a great deal on an a 27($150) with a lock right. I will use this until I get this 30 rebuilt and done like I want it, this way I can take my time learning how to rebuild, put some disc brakes on it, Gear it and put in a locker. Is this a smart idea?
